Willow popped by for her full groom today after her Woofs Walked adventure with us. 💕🐾
Willow is one of our long-standing regulars for walking, grooming and boarding, and I’ve actually known this lovely girl for getting on for almost six years now through the services I offer. She really is such a gorgeous, sweet natured girl.
Today, during her nail trim, we unfortunately caught the quick slightly on one of her back claws. The “quick” is the sensitive blood vessel inside the nail, and sometimes, especially with mixed-coloured or darker claws where visibility is reduced, it can be difficult to judge exactly where it ends. If a dog moves suddenly during clipping — particularly dogs who are a little fidgety or nervous about having their nails done — this can occasionally happen, even in professional grooming salons and veterinary practices.
Thankfully, whilst it can look alarming because claws tend to bleed quite a bit, it is not considered a medical emergency or harmful injury. We applied professional anticoagulant powder immediately to stop the bleeding, which worked well. Because Willow is an older girl, it needed a couple of reapplications before it fully settled.
To make sure she travelled home comfortably, I also sent Willow home with a blanket to protect the car just in case she licked the claw and it restarted slightly on the journey home.
She was otherwise an absolute superstar for her groom and left looking beautiful as always. 💖✂️
See you tomorrow, Willow, for your walkies with the Woofs Walked crew. 🐾💕
