Alice is a canine and equine physiotherapist covering Bristol, Bath & surrounding areas.

"Physiotherapy can treat conditions such as osteoarthritis, elbow and hip dysplasia, cruciate ligament injuries, spinal injuries, soft tissue injuries and rehabilitation after orthopaedic surgery."

I had the pleasure of meeting Alice, and honestly if our old man, Biff, was still here. I would absolutely trust her with him.

☀️ Dogs are 10 times more likely to suffer heat illness from exercise/walks in hot weather than from being left in cars.
- RSPCA

If dogs absolutely must be exercised during extreme heat, early morning or later evening is safest. 🐾

🗣️ “But my dog is bouncing off the walls not going out!”

Then we adapt while still keeping them safe.
Mental enrichment can tire dogs out just as much as physical exercise!

🧩 Mind Games & Indoor Enrichment

🐶 Snuffle Towels / Snuffle Mats
Scatter treats or dry food into rolled blankets, towels or a snuffle mat and let them sniff it out.

👃 “Find It” Game

1. Show them a treat
2. Toss it nearby
3. Say “find it!”

Once they understand the game, start hiding treats around the room for them to search for.

📦 Cardboard Destruction Box
Perfect for shredders 😂

Fill a box with:
• paper
• toilet roll tubes
• treats
• safe toys

Let them dig, sniff and destroy!
(Just supervise if your dog likes eating cardboard.)

🧊 Frozen Lick Mats or Kongs
Licking is naturally calming and soothing for dogs.

Try:
• plain yogurt
• soaked dry food
• banana
• dog-safe peanut butter
• wet food

Freeze for longer-lasting enrichment.

🦴 Chewing
Safe long-lasting chews can help regulate boredom and stress.

Examples:
• yak chews
• olive wood
• natural chews (if tolerated)

Let’s keep our dogs safe AND happy during the heat 🤍

Are you ready for the heatwave next week? 👀

Here are some pointers to keep your furry friends comfortable 🐶

☀️ DOG HEAT FACTS ☀️

🐾 Some will actively seek cool tiles to cool themselves down…

…but also willingly roast themselves in direct sunlight until they’re panting like a broken accordion 😭

A few things people don’t always know:

🐕 Black dogs don’t automatically overheat faster, coat type and airflow matter massively.

✂️ A well maintained coat helps air circulate properly through the fur, which can actually help regulate temperature better in warm weather. (Book that groom 👀)

🍽️ Many dogs eat less and sleep more in hot weather because digestion actually creates body heat.

💦 Drenching the whole coat can sometimes trap heat instead of helping. Cooling paws, belly, groin & inner thighs works better.

🐾 Small dogs can struggle faster because they’re closer to heat bouncing off pavements.

🧊 Ice cold water isn’t actually best for overheating dogs. Cool water helps the body regulate more safely.

☀️ Dogs can get sunburn too! Especially pink noses, ear tips, bellies and freshly shaved areas. Dog-safe sunscreen (not ordinary human sunscreen) can help protect sensitive areas.

And pink paw pads can burn faster than darker ones 👀

During very hot weather, it’s safest to walk dogs early morning or later in the evening when temperatures are lower and pavements are cool.

Please give your dogs shade, water, cool surfaces and supervised garden time over the hot period. 🤍

We love reviews from our clients 🥰

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Excellent groom. Beard shaped beautifully. Eyelashes respected. Staff very kind, although she does talk to me like a baby.

Would have given 6 stars, but the noises she made to get me to look at the camera were frankly unprofessional.
