Let’s Talk Ball Throwing 🎾

If your dog is repeatedly chasing a ball, it will flood your dog’s body with adrenaline and cortisol which can lead to high levels of arousal and frustration. The repetitive stops, twists, turns and bursts of speed are not good for your dog’s joints and can result in muscle strains, cruciate tears and early onset osteoarthritis. Often dogs will not stop, even if it hurts because of the adrenaline…causing more damage!

If you are going to throw the ball for your dog, warm them up first and keep it to a handful of throws. Keeping the ball low to the ground and rolling it can help minimise the jumping and sharp twists and turns. Or even better…try scent work and hide & seek games with your dog so you can still play with the ball, but in a safer way! 🐾🎾
