🩺 Hamster Owners – We Need Your Help! 🐹

One of the fantastic fourth-year RVC vet students our head vet Sonya is currently mentoring, is carrying out a research project looking into why pet hamsters are brought to the vets and the most common diagnoses made in these cases.

If you currently own a hamster, or have owned one previously, she would be incredibly grateful if you could spare a few minutes to complete her survey.

📌 Important: You can only answer for one hamster at a time, so if you’ve had more than one, please complete a separate survey for each hamster if possible.

Your input will genuinely help improve our understanding of common health issues in pet hamsters and ultimately support better veterinary care for these little patients.

Horsfield tortoise. Brought to the Wells Road Hospital last night, having been found on Elmtree Road, Withywood, Bristol. Sadly she has been injured and has numerous puncture wounds that we are treating, so may have been transported some distance. Please share to help find her owners.

Female bearded dragon found Bedminster down, in the Malago. Found in a field near by. She is currently safe with our exotic species team at the Wells Road hospital. Proof of ownership will be required

Stray duck. Found Shortwood Road, hartcliffe, Bristol. Sadly she/ he has been injured and is currently under the care of our hospital team. Please share to try and find the owners asap.

Celebrating excellence at Highcroft Exotic Vets!

We’re thrilled to share that Dr. Sonya Miles, an RCVS Recognised Advanced Practitioner in Zoological Medicine and Head Vet at Highcroft Exotic Vets, has been named one of three finalists for Petplan’s 2025 UK Vet of the Year Award! 🎉

Sonya has been part of Highcroft for over 10 years, leading our exotic animal medicine team with passion and expertise. Here’s what she had to say: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be a finalist for Petplan’s Vet of the Year. Working with exotic species is such a privilege and this recognition reflects not only my own passion but also the dedication and compassion of the incredible team around me. It’s wonderful to see the unique field of exotic animal medicine celebrated alongside more traditional practice areas.”

The winners will be announced at the London Vet Show on 20th November, with results shared on Petplan’s socials on the 21st.
