This , I know a big issue facing many small businesses that use our green spaces in Bristol is the Parks Business Licence that Bristol City Council plans to introduce in early 2026.

I was particularly surprised to hear such a licence would be required for professional dog walkers. Some dog walkers in Bristol North West contacted me to raise their concerns, including Angie from Care4k9s.

I recently met up with Angie and her colleague Richard (pictured below) to learn more about the issue at the dog friendly coffee shop Coffi Lab that opened on Gloucester Road earlier this year.

The fee that was initially proposed – £450 per person, per year to use one park, or £900 for a multi-park licence – was very expensive compared to other cities, including London, especially since dogs love to visit different areas on their walks!

Shortly after the coffee chat, I was pleased to learn the Council had decided to lower the licence fee for dog walkers, but I'll be keeping a close eye on this to make sure the licence fee is fair and reasonable when the new fee structure is published.
