Calling all ‘Miracle Makers’…….🙌

The power of a loving foster home is a wonderful thing, as demonstrated here by our beautiful 16 year old Ellie, who has settled effortlessly into hers. In fact, she’s even had moments of rediscovering her inner kitten!

There are currently several other older cats needing our help, and we would dearly like to avoid them having to come into the cattery.

So if you think you could provide a golden oldie with plenty of TLC in the familiarity of a quiet, pet free, cosy home environment like they’ve always been used to, then please do get in touch with us on: [email protected] or: give us a call on: 01275 474719

Thank you. 💜

We will happily provide food, bedding, cat litter and of course any potential future veterinary costs will always be covered by Holly Hedge.

Ellie hopes that all her senior feline friends will find foster homes as fabulous as hers! 😻

Forever foster home needed ❤️🏡

Beautiful Nala is a sweet, older lady that is looking for a long-term foster home that can offer her a nice, quiet, settled retirement.

Nala arrived with us in need of urgent medical care due to neglect. Whilst our kennels are much better than where she has come from, they are no place for her to live out her senior years.

We have found Nala to be friendly with everyone that she's met, she isn’t too keen on other dogs, so a pet free home would suit her down to the ground.

Nala walks well on a lead and still enjoys getting out and about for short walks. However, she would be just as happy with a large secure garden, where she can have a good sniff about. She soon forgets her age if she gets the whiff of a mole hill!

Being an older girl she isn’t as agile as she once was, she’s on some pain relief and Holly Hedge will continue to cover her necessary medical costs.

Nala would ideally benefit from an adult only home with experience of larger/guarding breeds.

Nala loves spending time in our staff room and she states a comfy sofa is a must!

Please do get in touch if you think you can offer Nala her well deserved retirement home: [email protected]

Last week, we had the pleasure of celebrating a very special milestone — our amazing animal carer, Lou, has dedicated 25 years to Holly Hedge! During that time, Lou has helped rescue, rehabilitate and rehome literally thousands of animals 🐾❤️

We held a little surprise party to thank Lou for her dedication to the sanctuary over the past quarter of a century. Cattery volunteer, Helen, that has worked with Lou for the past eight years and helped arrange the get together summed up:

“Lou, your dedication to Holly Hedge has made sure that so many of the lost souls that have entered the sanctuary over the last 25 years, have left knowing a piece of your kindness.

I think we can all agree you are a star, and not only Holly Hedge has been blessed to have you here over the last 25 years, but all the cats and dogs that have come into your care.

May you keep shining your light, offering your love, and continue to make a difference, for many more years to come.

HEARTFELT THANKS FROM ALL OF US AT HOLLY HEDGE”

❤❤ Happy Furever After ❤❤

I wanted to let you know how much Arlo and Nene are settling in my house. They are now roaming around the enclosed garden, playing with various insects and having the time of their life.

Arlo is a complete cuddle monster and comes to bed with me every night, waking me up by sitting on my head! And Nene is really coming out of her shell, sitting on me on the sofa watching TV most nights so they are both real sweeties.

Thank you so much for taking them in and for giving me the opportunity to give them a nice life.

🏠❤Ted Update – Still looking for his forever home 🏠❤

Ted (previously Toji) is a young and happy chap who can potentially live with another dog, he’s super smart and has so much potential. We cannot believe he is still waiting.

Ted’s been with his foster family for just over a month now. Please take a moment to read what a super dog is:

“Ted is doing really well and has settled nicely into our routine. He continues to be the affectionate, playful boy, and he’s become more confident on his walks. He’s very curious about his surroundings and enjoys exploring.

What we've learnt about Ted:
💕Affectionate and loving and enjoys snuggles and playtime.
💤He is allowed to sleep on our bed, but prefers his own space and mostly sleeps in his bed or nearby, but jumps back on bed in the morning.
🐾Ok to be left alone, after about 10 minutes he settles down, watches TV, or sleeps. No barking.
📺Loves the TV – especially YouTube videos of dogs walking!
🥏Playful puppy moments when in a silly mood. Loves playing in the garden and rolling on the grass.
🚪Politely lets us know he needs to go out to the toilet by standing by the door.
🛁We recently gave him a bath, and he stayed completely calm throughout.

We’re hopeful he’ll find the perfect home soon. Fingers crossed for our Ted boy."

Ted is still a young dog, he will benefit from a calm environment and support to manage his frustration when seeing other dogs out and about, he just wants to meet and greet every dog he sees! He definitely has the potential to live with another dog pending suitable introductions. Ted could live with older teens.

If you are interested in Ted, please contact us on [email protected]. Please share to help Ted find his forever family.

We are FULL…foster homes really needed

Holly Hedge are urgently seeking foster homes for some of our dogs and cats who are unable to cope with being in a kennel or cattery environment and need extra TLC.

Some have been with us for a considerable length of time and are desperate for a home environment where their rehabilitation can be continued. Others urgently need to be rescued when we are full and have no space.

Many of our rescues are here through no fault of their own. Some have been abandoned and found straying with dreadful injuries, others have been given up because the owners circumstances have changed and unfortunately can no longer keep their much-loved pets, or just surplus to requirements and sadly unwanted.

We are seeking caring and committed people who can be a temporary half-way house for our less fortunate and vulnerable rescues who need that little bit extra, whether it be a cosy bed after a big operation, recovering from a debilitating illness, the elderly or very young who should not be in a kennel or cattery situation.

Then of course there are always those who require ongoing training that will need experienced foster carers willing to put the time and effort into helping them forget their sorry pasts, paving the way to making all their dreams come true in their longed for forever homes.

Fostering is being a Good Samaritan to those dear souls who have lost their way, lost their homes and the people they love, been abandoned and mis-treated and lost all hope and trust in humans. It takes very special, compassionate animal loving Angels to be there for those that society has failed and are that little bit more challenging.

Working with these victims of ill treatment and neglect and gaining their trust is very rewarding and such a great achievement but also takes a lot of time and patience. Holly Hedge will be there to support you every step of the way.

Please note many of our animals will need an experienced foster home with no other pets, and no young children, and foster carers should be local to Holly Hedge in North Somerset / Bristol and have transport, to bring animals back to the sanctuary for vet visits, and for dogs to meet prospective adopters. For cats, we arrange for prospective adopters to meet them in the foster home, so foster carers would need to be okay with this.

All equipment and food can be provided and all vet bills are covered by the sanctuary.

To apply to be a foster carer or to make any enquiries regarding the animals or fostering, please contact the rehoming team at [email protected] or call 01275 474719 to check if you have the right circumstances to foster.

If you feel you can help, we would love to hear from you otherwise we would be grateful if you could share. Thank you 🙏

We're on the TV!!!👀📺

Fern Britton: Inside the Vets...goes inside the sanctuary!

Back in February we were excited to host the production crew of the new six-part ITV series, Fern Britton: Inside the Vets. Presented by Fern Britton and our friend Dr James Greenwood, the series focuses on life inside the Grove Vets in Henleaze, Bristol. An independent family run surgery, Grove Vets look after former Holly Hedge cat Arthur who features in the series as Dr Greenwood and owner Karina learn more about Arthur’s diabetes.

Episode 5 is set to air this Friday 15 August at 2pm on ITV. The episode sees Holly Hedge staff and volunteers talk about the sanctuary, the work we do and how each year we find homes for hundreds of animals. Dougie the Labrador x Collie features and is hoping to soon be one of them!

Be sure to tune in. The whole series can be watched now on ITVX.

❤❤ Happy Furever After ❤❤

Hi Holly Hedge,
On the 10th May it was Rosie's (Rose) 1st year Gotcha day with us. What a year it has been... we still can't believe how lucky we are to have this gorgeous little girl in our lives.

Rosie is such a little bundle of joy. She is so full of energy and mischief and always up for an adventure. But equally she is just as content to curl up in front of the wood burner or have tummy tickles.

Rosie just loves to run around, putting her nose into everything. She makes an adorable snorting noise! This did get her into trouble and she ended up with a grass seed up her nose. Straight to the vets we went. Unfortunately it meant Rosie had to be sedated to get the nasty seed out but the next day she was right as rain, like it never happened!

Our daughter has adopted a Pomsky called Bear, so Rosie has a fur brother. We were cautious about how Rosie would react but she has been amazing. She bosses him around and puts him in his place but they get on really well.

We can't imagine not having Rosie in our lives, and will be forever grateful to Holly Hedge for giving us the opportunity to care for her.

I have far too many pictures to choose from but these are just a few of the past year.
