It was with great sorrow we learned of the passing of Anthony Head, a true gentleman and a wonderful person who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was so famous, yet so grounded with no ego whatsoever. We were extremely proud to have him as our Patron along with Sarah. Our hearts go out to Daisy, Emily and family having to go through such sadness again.

Anthony will always be remembered with love and gratitude by everyone at Holly Hedge for his kindness and advocacy on behalf of all creatures great and small. Reunited with his beloved Sarah their legacy of care and compassion will live on in all the good work they achieved together.

Please meet Pablo and Piper 👋

Pablo and Piper are a bonded brother and sister looking for a home together via our home from home scheme. Piper is deaf and relies on her big brother for support. They are looking for a new home together as they are struggling to cope with being left longer hours.

They are a fun and friendly pair who love playtime and affection just as much as they love a big snooze.

Pablo and Piper enjoy walking in fields, rather than busy road walks and when it’s too hot for walks, they love having a splash about in their pools!

They currently live with children, and could do so again provided they are sensible slightly older and dog savvy - used to excitable and boisterous dogs! They will be best suited as the only pets in the home.

This cute pair will bring so much love, joy, and a no doubt a little chaos, into your heart and your home.

You can register an interest in Pablo and Piper on our website: https://hollyhedge.org.uk/animals/pablo-piper-home-from-home/

You can make a difference to Holly Hedge by taking part in the Nailsea Charity 5K organised by Nailsea and Backwell Rotary Club.

Have fun walking or running 5K (3 miles) through Nailsea, raising money for the Sanctuary.

The main event takes place this Sunday, 7 June, but if you can't make that date you can take part at any time up to the end of June.

To register to take part, please click here.
https://rotary-ribi.org/clubs/page.php?PgID=828631&ClubID=613

The event starts and finishes at the Scotch Horn Leisure Centre in Nailsea.

The Nailsea 5K is based on the long established "Whittlestone Rotary Walk". At 5 kilometres on footpaths around Nailsea and Wraxall, this is an easy fun walk - or a not too taxing fun run to start the day! The event is suitable for all ages and level of fitness with the route being pushchair/stroller, wheelchair and disability vehicle friendly.

❗️Very Special Foster Homes Desperately Needed ❗️

We’re desperately looking for more foster carers to help some of our most vulnerable animals. We are particularly looking for people with experience of caring for animals with medical needs and hand rearing kittens.

We have recently been asked to help some very special souls...

Last week a litter of five one day-old kittens arrived needing round-the-clock hand rearing after their mum was unable to feed them.

This week we have agreed to help Alex, a stray cat recovering from emergency reconstructive hip surgery following a road traffic accident, who now needs a calm foster home for crate rest and recovery.

Alex will need 6-8 weeks crate rest, daily mediation and monitoring for pain. He is approximately three years old, neutered and very friendly.

Our current hand reared kittens are now nearly two weeks old and mum and kittens are seeking a foster home. They need...

Bottle feeding every 3hrs (Mum has very minimal milk and not enough to feed five hungry kittens). Feeding times are 7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm, 11pm and 3am.

One kitten is on antibiotics for an eye infection twice daily.

Bathing kits eyes when needed

Monitoring and recording weights for kittens 6 times a day (before feeding)

Recording milk intake from bottle feeding daily

A home where someone is around most of the day and able to take the kittens to the vet as and when needed.

Holly Hedge can provide all milk and equipment

Mum and kits will need a room to themselves to keep them safe.

Ideally a pet free and child free home for a calm environment

As a foster carer, opening your home and your heart can be so rewarding and provides a vital lifeline to those animals in desperate need.

Please contact our rehoming team if you think you may be able to help now or are happy to be added to our books for the future: [email protected].

Please share to help us find more foster heroes.

⭐️⭐️⭐️TOMBOLA ITEMS WANTED! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This summer we have lots of fundraising events coming up and our Tombola is always hugely popular!

We are looking for good quality, as-new Tombola items that we can use to help raise funds for our animals.

If you have any unwanted gifts or other suitable items you would be willing to donate, we would be very grateful!

Please drop them into reception at the Sanctuary. Thank you.

This week is Volunteer’s Week! - A great opportunity to show appreciation for our volunteers at Holly Hedge 🤗

The Sanctuary simply couldn’t operate without our wonderful volunteers, from dog walkers and cat cuddlers, charity shop assistants, foster carers, lock up volunteers, laundry helpers and our fundraisers and events volunteers! Every person playing a vital role in the running of the rescue and supporting our animals.

On Saturday our brilliant fundraising and events volunteer team met at the sanctuary. It now costs nearly £1 million per year to run the sanctuary, so our fundraisers are more important than ever!

If you would like to get involved, you can fill our an application form online https://hollyhedge.org.uk/volunteering/ We’d love to hear from you!

Please note, volunteering at the sanctuary with our animals is, understandably, very popular and we are not currently taking applications for those roles.

❤️❤️ Happy Furever After ❤️❤️

Thank you so much for allowing us to give Lenny a forever home 💕
We've introduced him to a range of people now that he's more settled, including children and elderly people, and has been so gentle and sweet, especially when the person is unsteady on their feet. He definitely has a knack for understanding who he can play tug with, and who will just give him ear scratches. Everyone who meets him comments on how pretty and well mannered he is, and we definitely agree :) He also attends Pooch Play Time in Thornbury once a week, and has made some consistent doggy friends who he loves to play with, including a little staffy puppy named Bluebell. Their favourite game is bitey face, but it's all very friendly and Lenny stops and disengages when asked. I think in turn, he's also taught Bluebell some manners, which has been lovely to see.

He’s also great in the car, and has been on a few trips to the beach with us. He wasn’t sure about the sea and sand (he’s not a fan of water in general), but he loved sniffing around in the dunes and on the coast path.

All in all, he's such a lovely boy, and has come a long way since we first met him. He's definitely a lap dog now, and doesn't realise that his bony elbows are actually quite unpleasant to be jabbed with as he wriggles about on the sofa!

Thank you again for everything, and for Lenny. He really is the best little guy, and we're so grateful that we get to be his forever home.

Ciro - the original Big Friendly Giant!

Ciro has won our hearts. A much loved pet, he arrived with us after his owner sadly passed away. Ciro is a big boy (60+kg) but he really is a gentle giant.

🥰Ciro loves company and cuddles.
🪮Loves being brushed, it’s is one of his favourite things in the world!
🧸Always brings you his teddies to show you.
🦮Can be strong (especially if sees a squirrel!) but otherwise walks lovely on the lead.
🦴Loves food and enrichment.
🥾Not one for long hikes - he does have some arthritis in his legs.
☕️ Ciro is used to visiting dog friendly cafes, pubs and shops.
🚗Travels well in the car
🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 Could potentially live with dog savvy children 10+ .
🐶 Well socialised with other dogs in the past and previously lived with another dog so could possibly live with one of the right match pending successful introductions.

Basically the perfect BFG! ❤️

Sweet Molly came to us as a lonely stray but all she wants is a family of her own.

Molly is a very friendly affectionate cat, with the most beautiful eyes. She is always on the look out for a lap to loaf on so it’s quite sad she’s still here at the Sanctuary

Molly is a slightly older lady, we estimate she’s around 12 years old. She’d like a calm home with someone around she can keep company, she may be able to live with sensible children over 10. Molly would like to be the only pet in the home.
