Lots of horses hanging on to winter coat a bit longer this year, lots of weight gain, and those that regularly test liver enzymes have seen raised results . Interesting read as always!

A ‘better late than never’ end of April round up! (It’s been a busy few weeks! 😅)

Brilliant The Hoof Boot Shop training day in the midlands on Saturday with EP’s and farriers looking at Floating and Evo Boots, and how they can be fitted and adjusted. Really lovely boots with lots of options for a bespoke fit, they may be joining my fitting kits if I can squeeze them in! 🤔

The following Monday was a trip to the South coast to dissect cadaver legs kindly donated by the hosting EP’s client. It’s always bittersweet but such an important learning opportunity, and hopefully some answers for the owner. 💞

One of the Student Equine podiatrists brought a skeleton that was on Dartmoor (permission granted to lift!). We think it was a youngster, foal/ yearling, as the growth plates were not yet fused. A tricky jigsaw puzzle (luckily we also had an equine physio in attendance!) but so interesting and amazing to see.

… And had to visit The Donkey Sanctuary to look at some donkey hooves on the way home! 🫏

Just over 6 months development in an older horse. Little, gentle nudges in the right direction to accommodate creaky joints and legs with higher mileage ! Slowly regaining balance in those heels , loading more evenly, and gaining strength in the soft tissues at the back of his foot . Such a difference in the heel
bulbs ! 😊

The lovely Rusty showing off my first set up trimming decisions while having a post trim nap!

Watching movement, weight bearing, and observing wear patterns before trimming means we can be selective as to what to leave alone and where to trim . No rasping at all to the low lateral heel and little adjustments to the medial side.
Hopefully he’s now a little more balanced and will let us know at the next trim if we’re heading in the right direction!

Apologies for lack of posts on here recently … it’s been a combination of drowning in mud, a new baby horse, and lots of lovely new clients!
Lots of interesting feet (pre and post trim!) fleeting blue sky, and baby horse spam to start the year of the horse! 🐎 📷
