At only 6 months, this is Digby’s second harness as he’s growing fast! 📈 We decided to put him in a large, fitted on the smallest setting, in the hopes that this one might last him into adulthood

We went with a Haqihana as they are durable and will last for years; and they are highly adjustable so they can really grow with the dog!

It’s also a great choice for dogs with curly coats ➿ Minimal material means wearing the harness is less likely to cause the dog’s coat to matt ➿ making your dog more comfortable and grooming less stressful 🛁

Sometimes dogs need breaks from physical activity - maybe they’re recovering from an injury or surgery, or it’s too hot outside, or they’ve experienced high levels of stress and would benefit from some down-time.

Long-lasting chews are a great way to give your dog the rest and relaxation they require, while also ensuring their mental needs are being met.

Here Toby is pictured with a cow’s leg. This wouldn’t be suitable for novice chewers who might swallow large pieces, or those with strong jaws, like bully breeds. The force of them biting down on a weight-bearing bone could fracture their teeth. But there are lots of alternative long-lasting chews to suit all dogs regardless of breed or experience 🐕🦮🐩🐕‍🦺

Meet Sam: 4 months old, ears on point, and eager to please😆

Sam visited us for a new harness as he was quickly outgrowing his current one. We were impressed with his mastery of basic commands in a new and challenging environment!

❌🗑️Here’s a bit more information on how we attempt to keep waste levels low here at Eat Play Love 🐶🐱

3. We try to reuse as much as we can.

We reuse a lot of the packaging that we receive when products are delivered to us. One way we do this is we use it to package our online orders. This means if you order from our online store, the packaging you receive your order in might look pre-loved 💕

Some of the perishable items we sell are packaged in plastic for practical reasons. For the most part this packaging is from recycled sources and/or fully recyclable ♻️

We also try to reuse this plastic packaging ourselves as much as we can! For example, those who feed Henleys or Nutriment, we will take back emptied, cleaned containers and reuse these in the shop or ensure they are sent to appropriate recycling facilities 🤝

❌🗑️This week we’re discussing ways in which we minimise waste in the shop!

2. We avoid packaging, particularly plastic, as much as possible.

Most of the non-perishable items we sell are packaging free, or are packaged in cardboard or paper📦🗞️

🫙 We have a large selection of natural chews and a pick & mix selection of training treats that have no packaging. Please bring your own containers or we have brown paper bags that you can use. Natural chews are not only nutritious, great for dental care, and boredom busters, but also mean animal by-products do no go to waste 🌏

Long-lasting harder chews (horns, hooves, marrow, split antlers, and wood chews)

👍 no sharp edges and textures so won’t splinter easily. Instead, the action of chewing and saliva slowly grinds the chew down

👍 great for all dogs from teething puppies to large breeds with a strong bite that love to chew to spare your fingers or furniture!
👍 won’t become sticky or slimy when chewed

Chewing helps to relieve stress & boredom, but some dogs can lose interest in harder chews. To renew their interest, check out our stories for some things to try!

If you know that your dog is not a sensible chewer or you’re unsure, please supervise them closely and if the chew gets too small or any smaller pieces break off, they should be taken away from your dog. If you need advice on how to safely take items away from dogs, please speak to us as doing so incorrectly can cause resource guarding.

Most are suitable for dogs of all ages, but will depend on the condition of your dog’s teeth. Antlers / buffalo horns can be too hard for young puppies. If unsure, please ask!

🐾 It’s a good idea to check that your dog’s paws are clean and dry after a walk. The paws can become sore or infected from exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, debris, or chemicals, like de-icing products.

Adding some paw balm after cleaning and drying your dog’s paws can make them feel more comfortable and prevent sores, especially if the weather, or chemicals, have caused dryness or irritation 🥰

Alfie and his family moved house recently so his mum came to the shop to grab some items to give Alfie an outlet for any frustration or anxiety he might experience during the move and to start building positive associations in his new environment. His mum explained he likes to act out predatory behaviour so we suggested a Kong Jumbler.

A two-in-one ball that promotes interactive fun and stands up to tough play. The interior tennis ball bouncing around inside and its loud squeaking noise entices play, while the handles make picking up and shaking easy.

Here’s a photo of Alfie loving his new toy. His mum said it really helped him to ignore nearby noise that normally would worry him and he had a blast playing with his new toy in his new garden 🥰
