Another quick note about July and August!

I’m still receiving a huge number of enquiries for daycare and overnight bookings during the school holidays, and I have a long waiting list of people hoping for a space.

As mentioned before, if you book with me on an ad hoc basis, please let me know your required dates as soon as possible so I can plan ahead and offer any available spaces to others.

Due to high demand, any same-day cancellations will be charged during this period, as those slots could have been used by someone else on the waiting list.

If you do need to change or cancel your booking, please try to give me as much notice as you can—it’s a big help and much appreciated!

And today’s enrichment for the dogs here is teaching them how to use the new dog flap…..after 45 mins using various treats and bribes none of the boys can quite get their heads around it…..Bluebell wakes up from her afternoon nap and just gets up and goes straight out through it with all the boys watching in amazement…… I think that proves that girls rule and boys drool…..

After she made it look so simple, Arlo took the plunge , and then Chester but we are still waiting for the penny to drop for the others……

Would you work for £2.50 an hour?

OR £1.66 FOR 24 HOURS STRAIGHT?

Sounds mad, right? That's what many licensed dog boarders effectively earn.

We're responsible for your dog's safety, wellbeing, and happiness 24/7. Weekends. Bank holidays. Christmas. No clocking off.

Here's the reality: What you pay for a full day of professional pet care is often less than one hour of personal services.

Split that daily fee across 24 hours, then divide it between the handful of dogs we're licensed to board. We're operating below minimum wage. And that's when we're full.

Where does every penny go?

Legal obligations: Tax, National Insurance, licence fees, inspections, professional insurance (public liability, business use, spare van cover), CPD training, first aid certification

Daily operations: Admin, client updates, detailed record keeping, garden upkeep, home repairs, van cleaning and disinfection, pet waste disposal (yes, we pick up every single poo), cleaning products and disinfectants (£40 per 5L and we go through gallons), pest control

Professional equipment: Bedding, toys, leads, ID tags, enrichment activities, grooming kit, PAT testing, gas, electric, water, relief van hire when ours breaks down

The reality of 24/7 care:

Accident in the house at 3am? We clean it.

Sick dog in the night? We're at the emergency vet before sunrise.

Wet, muddy dogs after walks? We wash them and all their kit before they go home.

Van filthy from countryside walks? We disinfect it completely before the next collection.

The ultimate risk:

We might miss documenting one toilet break? Or forget to log one meal?

The council can revoke our licence instantly. No hearing. No payout. No protection. Career over.

We're not hobbyists. We're licensed professionals operating under strict regulations, with enormous responsibility and liability.

We love what we do. But love doesn't pay the mortgage.

It's time the pet care industry received the professional recognition and fair pricing it deserves.

Respect the work. Respect the responsibility. Support professional pet care.

Just a quick reminder for everyone with summer holiday boarding booked in:

I’ll always get in touch with you 2 days before your stay to confirm your drop-off time.

Drop-off and collection times are:
7am–9am
3:30pm–6pm
Please make sure to stick to these times or let me know if you’re running late.

A few other important bits:
• No need to bring bowls, toys, crates, etc. — I’ve got everything here and bringing extras just creates extra work.
• Your dog must have a collar with a name tag — it’s a legal requirement.
• Please make sure your emergency contact info is up to date too.

It’s the busiest time of year, so sticking to the routine helps keep things smooth for everyone — thank you! 🐾

With the summer holidays fast approaching, we’re getting very busy with both daycare and boarding. If you usually book ad-hoc daycare, please give as much notice as possible to secure a spot, as availability is limited.

If you won’t be needing your regular walks or daycare sessions during this time, please let me know—this will allow me to offer your space to someone on the waiting list.

Also, due to the high volume of dogs coming and going, I’ll need to be really strict with drop-off and collection times to minimise disruption for both the dogs staying with me and my neighbours.

2027 books are now officially open for bookings. Deposits need to be paid by December 2025 for any 2027 date.

Enjoying the benefits of the newly installed aircon! No one wants to leave the house 🙈

All walks are cancelled tomorrow and most likely Tuesday due to weather.

We now have aircon so daycare will resume as normal. No drop offs before 7.15am Monday and Tuesday this week.
