Pure Feed is completely free from nutritionally improved straw.
Nutritionally improved straw is typically treated through processes such as alkali or ammonia-based treatment to increase its digestibility and energy value. While this can improve the utilisation of an otherwise low-quality fibre source, it is still a highly processed ingredient designed to modify the natural structure of lignified plant material.
We choose not to use it because our approach focuses on naturally highly digestible fibre sources that are already efficient substrates for hindgut fermentation. These fibres are more predictable in composition and fermentation behaviour, supporting a more stable microbial environment in the caecum and colon.
By avoiding heavily processed fibre sources, we reduce reliance on chemical or structural modification and instead prioritise ingredients that deliver consistent fermentable fibre, supporting steady volatile fatty acid production, the horse’s primary energy source from fibre digestion.
The result is a simpler, more biologically aligned fibre base designed to support gut function, condition, and consistent energy supply 🩵
