OH I LOVE A LONG POST
And to put out as much info as i can .
If you really don't need to use the DREADED STRIMMER on that over grown patch of garden, just spare a thought for your prickly visitors,and then think maybe leave it for the hedgehogs to use as a safe haven.
OR MAKE THE TIME TO CHECK IT FIRST.
REMEMBER that hedgehogs may already have taken up residence in there,still sleeping,they take a while to fully awaken and mums and had their young yes lots not hibernated so they have hoggymated instead ,they will be sleeping curled up together,mum suckling her babies.
You won't see them as they know how to hide themselves,some dig into the earth making a large hole then cover with leaves,twigs,paper,anything they can carry back to fill it to keep themselves hidden.
Keep any area in your garden that is over grown if you can,plant some wildlife flowers in with it or some bushes.
The hogs will love a nice corner where they know they will feel safe if untouched.
STIIMMERS are the cause of some many injuried and deaths with our Prickly Visitors and with the baby season now happening more reason to BE ON EXTRA ALERT BEFORE YOU MAKE A DECISION TO DO IT.

Hedgehogs need a helping hand in this dry weather!

With the unusually dry weather for this time of year some hedgehogs are struggling, a shallow dish of water can save a life! The dry hard ground is making foraging more work for less reward so a small dish of food can really help. Our motto is always keep is simple: kitten biscuits or wet cat/dog food, avoiding fish flavours. Nothing else is needed, just water!

For many people we understand that, sometimes circumstances change but abandoning animals is not the answer.

We have horses all around the world being abandoned not just in the Uk and we at Horses4Homes have a system/service that try and help prevent this from happening.

Our services help all horses and owners to feel safe and comfortable when we find their horses the right home.

If your circumstances change, that is perfectly fine! Do not hesitate to come to us to seek help and advice. We are here to help and support where we can. We do not judge, the first thing we think about is you and your horse.

Our services/system has helped over 2000 horses find their next perfect partners. This includes companions, duos and trios. We know rehoming these are very hard but we do make them our top priority too! As they all deserve to find their next chapter.

We understand that not all systems are safe, but we try our very best to find horses the best of homes and make sure they go onto their next adventure safe and sound.

🌑Don’t Be A Dark Horse🌑

With the dark night’s drawing in, it is more important than ever to wear hi-vis clothing when out hacking or carriage driving.

Thinking of buying a hi-vis❓

Here’s what to consider:

🦺 We recommend as minimum a hi-vis jacket or tabard for the rider and leg bands on the horse.

🦺 We would recommend riders wear LED lights wherever possible, ideally in a pattern that highlights their width. For example, lights on their shoulders and the flanks of their horse.

🦺 When choosing what colour to wear, think about the background you will be riding against. At certain times of the year, you could blend into the background or hedgerow wearing certain colours.

🦺 Many hi-vis garments now reach BSI approved standards. These standards are BSEN1150 or EN1150, aimed at use by leisure riders. We would always recommend choosing clothing to a recognised standard where possible.

MY LITTLE FARM ❤
“Farm work doesn’t make you stronger. It doesn’t make you anything. It reveals you.
There’s gym strong and then there’s farm strong. They’re mutually exclusive. The toughest women you’ll ever meet spend their days on a farm.
There are more uses for twine than you can possibly imagine. You can tie up a hole in a slow feeder, fashion a tail strap for a horse’s blanket, mend a broken fence and use it as a belt.
“Well that certainly didn’t go as planned,” is one thing you’ll say quite a bit.
Control is a mere illusion. The thought that you have any, at any given time, is utterly false.
Sometimes sleep is a luxury. So are lunch and dinner. And brushing your hair.
If you’ve never felt your obliques contract, then you’ve never tried stopping an overly full wheelbarrow of horse manure from tipping over sideways. Trust me, you’ll find muscles that you never knew existed on the human skeleton to prevent this from happening.
When one of the animals is ill, you’ll go to heroic lengths to minimize their discomfort.
Their needs come first. In summer heat and coldest winter days. Clean water, clean bed, and plenty of feed. Before you have your first meal, they all eat.
When you lose one of them, even though you know that day is inevitable, you still feel sadness, angst and emotional pain from the top of your head to the tips of your toes. And it’s a heaviness that lingers even though you must regroup and press on.
You’ll cry a lot. But you’ll never live more fully. You’ll remain present no matter what because you must. There is no other option.
You’ll ask for so many miracles and hold out hope until the very last.
You will, at least once, face-plant in the manure pile. You’ll find yourself saying things like, “we have maybe twenty minutes of daylight left to git ‘er done” whilst gazing up at a nonspecific place in the sky.
You’ll become weirdly obsessive about the weather.
You’ll go out in public wearing filthy clothes and smelling of dirt, sweat and p**p. People will look at you sideways and krinkle their noses but you won’t care.
Your entire day can derail within ten seconds of the rising sun.
You can wash your coveralls. They won’t look any cleaner, but they will smell much nicer.
Farm work is difficult in its simplicity.
You’ll always notice just how beautiful sunrises and sunsets really are.
Should you ever have the opportunity to work on a farm, take the chance! You will never do anything more satisfying in your entire life.”

What a difference a day makes!

"Gate Please!"
Gates must be closed immediately after the field have passed through. Please pass down the line behind you the call "Gate Please" so they know the gate must be shut. If the next in line is out of earshot then raise a whip or hand to signal and make sure they acknowledge. If you are at the back of the field and last through the gate, make sure it is closed, and be sure to thank anyone who helps so you don't struggle or have to get off your horse!
It is helpful for someone to stay with the rider who is closing the gate to keep their horse settled.
