It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the twelfth annual Brighton Big Dog will not be running in 2022, and we have therefore made the difficult to decision to cease putting on the event.

We know this will be a huge disappointment to everyone who is or has been part of the Big Dog Family over the past 12 years, our spectators, traders, marshals, sponsors, dj's, suppliers and of course the riders. We'd like to thank all of your for your participation and support over the past years, we had a good run putting the event on from 2008-2019 but its time to draw a line under Big Dog and quit while we're ahead.

We hope you all enjoyed what we brought to UK MTB racing and the Brigthon scene, hopefully we achieved what we set out to do which was create something unique, non profit based and most importantly fun.

Sorry but...No Big Dog in 2021.

Hello Big Dog fans. We hope you are all keeping well and looking forward to drier trails soon.

Its with regret that we announce Brighton Big Dog will not be held in 2021. We know this will come as a disappointment to all of you looking forward to some "Bicycle Race Action" this summer but we felt it best to get the news out early.

A combination of factors have led to a decision. Big Dog is a complex "pop-up" event that shares space in the public park of Stanmer which has itself become increasingly popular and well used. This year the support of a key organiser is missing plus there are underlying Covid concerns and protocols which are considered too high risk too for our 'not-for-profit' event.

Optomism remains for Big Dog's future but this is a year to be realistic with our challenges.

A huge thanks for the good times we've had so far. Keep pedalling.

Hey there Big Dog fans. I'm sure it comes as no surprise to announce that we cannot run the UK's favourite MTB race this year. We have been holding out for a number of changes that its clear now will not be forthcoming.
Firstly we are an event on public council land and of a scale not in line with current guidelines for social distancing.
Additionally, insurance, first aid, equipment hire are all under pressure to operate normally.
Also there is the small matter of the entrance of Stanmer Park still being in construction phase for the new visitors car park and kiosk area.
So its a no for this year but rest assured we will be back with renewed energy in 2021 and are looking forward to delivering the best Big Dog yet!
Right now the trails in Stanmer Park are running sweet. Stanmer is a free area to ride in. Please respect others enjoyment of the park at all times and do your bit to maintain a healthy relationship between different user groups as well as keeping the park trash free. Thank you all for your continued love and support for Brighton Big Dog, its you the racers that make it what it is!

Just some of our fantastic helpers and marshals. Without this support there simply would not be a Big Dog race. Everyone gives their time for free and we look after everyone best we can.... must be doing something right as half our Marshals from last year wanted to help again. 👏👍 Thanks all and a special mention for our Head Marshal Colin Scarff.

We have a new female BIG DOG in Sharn Hooper (Southorks Racing). A brilliant race from start to finish, Sharn just kept the defending champion Iwona Szmyd (five time winner) at bay by a mere 31 seconds at the finish line!

Taking his 7th solo Big Dog win, it was a harder race than normal for the defending BIG DOG Ben Thomas (Ben Thomas Coaching). Alex Welburn (Trainsharp) set the fastest opening lap and piled on the pressure early on. But Ben is the National MTB Marathon Champion for a reason and held off a strong field to complete an incredible 11 laps, 117km with 3200m of climbing!

Big hand to all our solo racers. It's a hard hard lap and everyone did great.

Whos up for a race then?! The number plates this year look the best. Good job on the design, on the printing and thanks for the sponsorship.... and for letting us race in wonderful Stanmer Park again.
News just in.. multiple defending Big Dog male Solo champion is confirmed for Saturday. Having just been married last weekend we suspected he would be away...but he's managed to book his honeymoon flights for Sunday so he can compete at Big Dog again. Definitely married the right woman! 😆
