Meet the very handsome, Belly. He is a four-year-old white male cat looking for his forever home.

Belly has been quite shy while in our care, so we’re still getting to know his personality. He’s a very gentle boy who will thrive in a calm and patient home where he can build confidence at his own pace.

With time, understanding, and lots of love, Belly has every chance to become a wonderful companion.

🌞🌻 Cool for cats 🌞🌻

Brighton and Hove has been getting some gorgeous sunshine recently. But are your fur babies doing OK in the heat?

Access to plenty of water is important; drop some ice cubes into their water bowl to help bring the temperature down. To help ensure your cat regularly drinks water, make sure the water bowl is located away from the food bowl. The best material for a water bowl is glass or ceramic – plastic bowls can taint the taste of the water, particularly in hot weather.

Grooming to remove excess fur is a great way of helping your cat to stay cool. It can also help you spot early signs of skin cancer which might present as areas turning pink, and sometimes hair loss and scaling. Consult a vet if there's something that doesn't look right.

In hot weather, some cats also enjoy being stroked with a cool hand, glove, or cloth. Alternatively, freeze a bottle of water, wrap it in a towel or pillowcase and place it somewhere your cat goes regularly.

Our fosterer Ellen has done such a great job with Luna over the past few months.

Luna can be an affectionate girl, who forms close bonds with people. But it can take her a little time to feel settled, and any affection has to be on her terms until she feels she can trust you.

Ellen made sure Luna felt safe in her foster environment and was careful not to overwhelm her with the whole house at first. She gave her enough alone time to relax and Luna will approach when she wants cuddles. 😻

We’re looking for a calm and understanding home that can give her space to shine.

For more about Luna, go to our site at: cats.org.uk/brighton -60352

Thanks to everyone who participated in our cat microchipping event yesterday at Southdown Veterinary Centre in conjunction with Lost Cats Brighton Lost and Found.

We managed to chip a number of Brighton and Hove cats for a discounted price of £10 😻

Teresa Dee, Cats Protection Brighton and Hove branch Team Leader said:

"I spent the day at our microchipping event with Lost Cats Brighton and Southdown Vets - lots of lovely cats, plenty of chats with their humans, and a good catch-up with fellow cat welfare people. A simple chip can make a big difference if your cat decides to go exploring."

We will be having more microchipping events really soon, so message us if you are interested and we'll keep you updated!

This is Vasya. He has been missing for a whole year.

But now he's BACK!! 🎉
Settle in for Vasya's dramatic story...

The story began three years ago, when a charming, fluffy kitten turned up at his owner Marina's house. He was a bit wild, and they thought this might be down to some possible trauma - he was very afraid of men even though he trusted women.

Vasya was a wanderer. He began to wander quite regularly. But he would always come back to his home and food. Until one day he didn't.

As the days turned into months without Vasya, Marina and her family naturally assumed the worst had happened.

She said: "The only thing that gave us hope was that he had a microchip, so even if something had happened, he could be identified via the chip.

"We thought of him very often, but after six months we thought that Vasya would never return. Our home was empty and quiet without a cat, and a kitten named Marthy appeared."

But then on the evening of 9 April 2026, Marina received a message from IdentiBase saying that his microchip had been scanned at Cats Protection Brighton and Hove.

"I simply couldn’t catch my breath. I reread the message and couldn’t believe it was true. I told my children and my husband, and they all asked the same question: Is he alive? Yes, yes, he’s alive!"

"But the second question I was already asking myself was: what condition is he in? Is he all right?"

"The next morning, Katie, a volunteer from Cats Protection Brighton and Hove rang me: he’d been visiting a nearby house, begging for food. And that very morning, with the help of the lovely and kind volunteer Katie and the caring owner of that house, Ollie, Vasya was put into a carrier and I brought him home!"

Marina added: "I still can’t quite get used to the fact that Vasya is home - we’d given up hope of ever seeing him alive again."

"We have so many questions about what happened to him during his year away that we will never know the answers to, but what we do know for certain is that without the microchip and Cats Protection, we would never have been reunited with Vasya!"

📣 Cats Protection is holding a microchipping event this Saturday at Southdown Veterinary Centre in Hove. You can get your cat chipped for only £10. Email us at [email protected] to book your place now! 📣
