šŸŒ”ļøTHE DOG LION CUT THERMAL IMAGE CLAIMS DEBUNKED - AGAIN!šŸŒ”ļø

Its that time of year again! The thermal image of the half clipped/shaved dog is being shared to "prove" that the coat keeps them cool! Of course this is totally misinterpreted and just plain wrong!

A dog's coat keeps it WARM in the WINTER and and even WARMER in the SUMMER. That's why many wild animals shed signficantly to reduce thermal load in the Summer. Many dogs live in climates they weren't bred for e.g. Huskies in the desert.

A thick coat does not keep a dog cool in a hot climate. Insulation keeps heat in or out. It depends on what the temperature direction is. If the outside is lower than the dogs skin heat moves from skin to outside and the coat slows that down. Great when its cold. If the outside is hotter than the dogs skin then the coat slows the movement of heat in BUT - the dog is still producing heat continously that it has to get rid of, so now it has to increase respiratory evaporative heat loss and sweating evaporative heat loss.

🐾Clip/shave a dog and make them more comfortable!

🐾REMEMBER - If they are PANTING they are struggling to regulate their body temperature! A comfprtable dog should NOT BE PANTING!

šŸ“¤PLEASE feel free to SHARE to educate someone - it might just make a dog have a better quality of life!

Ranger has decided that Agilty isn’t his favourite thing but really enjoys Barnhunt, he’s a busy boy who struggles to settle for an entire hour of massage, especially when he has sore bits, Ranger was another dog seen at yesterdays In The Dog’s Interest clinic. He did manage to settle once the hurty bits were dealt with and was looking forward to a Mantrailing session today. It’s so lovely to see so many dogs with multiple skills enjoying massage and the benefit it brings. See you soon lovely lad šŸ’™

Gorgeous Foden was another of yesterdays dogs at In The Dog’s Interest, this lovely boy has managed to hurt his neck playing with his tiny brother and has been very uncomfortable for a few days, luckily for him his specific issue is something I’ve had to deal with numerous times in Giant breed dogs. I’d explain it like whiplash, if you’ve ever whipped your head around and ended up with a surging pain in your neck I believe it’s the exact pain that he and other giant breed dogs are prone to, I believe it happens because their heads are so huge!
In between massaging dogs yesterday I did multiple treatments on Foden, I wanted to do this in small segments allowing the tissue to rest and allowing him to get up and move around in his own time, nothing was rushed, he wasn’t pulled around, he simply had multiple treatments targeting the specific area of discomfort and was allowed time between to recover and decompress. I used electromagnetic therapy inbetween and his mum has been left with specific instructions for regular Vascular Flush treatments and some massage techniques which will help him recover. I’ve had a report that he seemed much brighter this morning and wanted to go out for a walk, so that’s great news. I’ll be keeping in regular contact with Fodens mum as he recovers and hopefully he’ll be back to his huge bouncy self soon šŸ’™šŸ’™

Another of yesterdays dogs at In The Dog’s Interest was Orinoco, I’ve been regularly getting him used to being massaged since he came home as a tiny pup, he’s very used to me touching him all over and this regular touch has helped me to ease him into massage over time. Ori absolutely cannot stay still for a whole hour so sessions are kept short and target any specific areas of discomfort. Luckily he still loves me! Look at that handsome baby face 🄰

Tiny Roma squeaked, groaned, purred and slept during yesterdays session at In The Dog’s Interest, this older lady has recently recovered from a frightening episode of jaundice, she’s recovered well and has shaken it off like the powerhouse she is! Small but mighty describes this grade 7 Agility superstar to a tee šŸ†
She settled beautifully and had a nice nap, what a lovely girlie šŸ’•

Jazz arrived at yesterday’s clinic at In The Dog’s Interest feeling sleepy after a fun few days away with her mum, at an Agility show. I was lucky enough to get a nice cuddle and a lot of kisses during her session. I bet human massage therapists don’t say that šŸ«£šŸ˜‚
I’d imagine she slept well last night! See you soon lovely girl šŸ’•

At yesterday’s monthly clinic at In The Dog’s Interest, Wilf came in with his mum where he tried his best to hog the camera when I took his photo! When he arrives he squeals and snorts and whines, he leaps up onto the massage couch and wags his tail like a weapon šŸ˜‚
I think we can safely say he enjoys his massage! Good luck at Agility today handsome boy šŸ’™
