PHILOSOPHY
Jane follows the Kennel Club and Association of Pet Dog Trainers Codes of Practice. She believes that puppies and dogs respond best to reward-based training. This has been shown to be the most kind and effective method of helping puppies and dogs (and their handlers) to learn wanted behaviours. This approach also helps develop stronger bonds between canines and humans. CLASSES
Classes are designed to be fun, relaxed and teach handlers how best to train their puppies and dogs. All classes are held on Wednesday afternoons at Shipton Gorge Village Hall, Church Lane, DT6 4LZ. NB Now taking puppies and dogs for classes, and private tuition. Please see webpage for further information - allaboutthedogwestdorset.co.uk

You will notice that I haven't posted anything about puppies and dogs in classes for a long time. The reason is to maintain the privacy of clients and also due to the number of dog thefts. This is a shame because there is so much to learn watching other people and their dogs but I feel it is appropriate for my clients. We use photos and videos in the private group so that we can see what signals our dogs are following. It is often not the ones we think - all of us make mistakes and inadvertently train our dogs to do something we don't intend! But through positive reward based training we can get there in the end. We don't train to produce unthinking automatons, but happy, well mannered dogs that are allowed to display their personality. If you are interested in joining us you are welcome to watch a class. However, classes are kept very small and I like to ensure that the dogs in each class are suitable to be together.

Wherever you are, please remember that dog training instructors and dog behaviourists are not regulated at the current time. So always look for accreditation or qualifications - the Animal Behaviour and Training Council is a good place to start.

Good luck!
