We are The Birkett~Smith Animal Sanctuary and we are a rarity in the UK as we are one of the largest sanctuaries to take in both human and dog aggressive dogs and rehabilitate them. We are also one of the the very few UK sanctuaries that will take aggressive and fear aggressive dogs and we rehabilitate these animals as much as we can over time to enable them to enjoy their forever home here with u

Little Ralphie enjoying the sun on his back and the wind up his tail 😃🤩 Ralph came in via a rescue after a lovely Avon representative saw him being kept in a bird cage in a house she visited 😠🥹 He was a tricky customer and still can be but he has mellowed ‘some’ over the years 😂 and is a fab character who loves his life ❤

💕 Our gorgeous Apollo kicking up his heels and just having some fun 💖 Apollo is a licenced type and this has been his home for many years. He can be dog reactive and stranger reactive but he is happy with his spot in the sanctuary and is multi handler with the team 😊 He is a very contented boy who loves a good game, his treats and lots of fuss 💕🐾🌟

Two of our tiny rascals having great fun together and living their best lives 😍💖💖 Our little lad Buster is a fab boy who has neuro function issues and is a total comedian and joy to have about as he is rarely ‘dog like’ 😂 Rather he’s a mix of coiled spring, piranha and squirrel and takes very careful handling 😬 He’s also known as ‘Houdini’ as he can get out of any dog coat known to man 😂
And our Pip is a fiery *coughs* little character who chooses his people and dog friends and good luck if you are not a friend! 🤣🤣 His favourite toy is a boomer ball which is almost bigger than him 🤣

Our Marvellous Marvin 😍😍😍 Hong Kong Fuey to his friends 💖 Loving ear scritches and cuddles in the sunshine ☀️

A few years back, Marvin rolled up at the gates with his suitcase covered in country stickers, needing sanctuary and decided to unpack his bags for good and ditch his world traveller status there and then 🧳💖 He is a very happy lad who spends his days just being a dog and having fun 🤩 He loves his life, his walks, his toys, his treats and his carers 💕🐾

🐾 Sanctuary beauty Willow out and about this morning 💕🙂
Willow was an owner hand in 7 or 8 years ago due to a bite history and severe guarding in the home. She has fragile hips and is under our vet continuously to maintain her movement and keep her happy and pain free. She is one half of the sweetest bonded pair with Kujo, another Caucasian 😍 they are always photographed together but Kujo has been feeling a bit under the weather so he is resting today. He came to us back in 2017. He was seized by the RSPCA in an abuse case and was very human reactive and wary of everyone. Unfortunately we had to have both of his ear canals removed due to damage caused by untreated ear infections and he is deaf as a post but so much happier. Kujo is careful when he plays with Willow because of her hips and Willow instinctively understands Kujo's deafness. They are both adorable and it's wonderful to see how much they care for each other 💖💕

If you need a lesson on how to remove your coat, Buster says “You are welcome.”

Buster is one of our more ‘unique’ sanctuary boys 😛 He’s mad as a hatter but we love him dearly....almost as much as he loves his walks 🙂 His nickname is ‘ferocious’ because he can be very playfully scary but he loves fuss when you catch him in the right frame of mind ❤ He’s a fab boy who just loves playing in the water, walks and his toys and is living his life on his terms…..without a coat 😂 💖🐾💦
