** EMBRYO TRANSFER**

This is an image of an early scan from one of our ICSI embryos transferred over the summer.
Did you know that here at B&W we regularly perform ‘ovum pick-up’ (OPU) for ICSI?

ICSI is a form of in-vitro fertilization (IVF), now used widely in horses. It is the process by which oocytes (eggs) are harvested from the mare, and transported to an ICSI lab for maturation and fertilization. The oocytes are fertilized by injection of a single s***m into each oocyte, to produce an embryo which can then be transferred into a recipient mare.

**SUCCESS STORY**

We were thrilled to hear an update from about the beautiful Jarvis. Last year Jarvis was found with signs of severe colic. Luckily he lives very close to B&W equine hospital and one of the vets was there within 15 minutes. Careful examination of Jarvis, including a re**al examination confirmed the vets’ suspicion that he had a complete intestinal obstruction that required surgical correction.

Surgeon Chris Wright says "Jarvis was anaesthetised and a blockage (ileal impaction) caused by dry fibrous food material was identified. The blockage was resolved by injecting saline into to the impaction and massaging the intestine until the food material was soft enough to be moved on.

Ileal impactions can be associated with poor dentition or tape worm infestation. In Jarvis’ case no obvious cause was identified. It is fabulous that he has qualified for HOYS and we wish him all the best.

This is the last shout-out to join the talk about strangles, asthma and clicker training this Wednesday 3/9 between 7pm and 9pm at the Avon Centre.

We haven't sold that many tickets yet so we are going to close the ticket sales today at midnight and see if it's even worth running the event as we don't want to waste our vet's time. They have very generously offered their time and knowledge for free to help us raise funds after the fire we have had in our fields in July.
