‘I run a busy cattery and was looking for an alternative to wood pellets (as prices have soared over the past year) when I spotten someone had mentioned straw pellets on a cattery forum, so decided to look into them. Concord Equestrian was the company mentioned so I called Suzanne who answered a few questions I had and recommended that I try a few bags to see how I got on with them. I can honestly say that they are just as good as wood pellets to use as cat litter and have not had a single cat, over the past 6 or so months, refuse to use them. As for disposal, I have an incinerator to dispose of used litter and this was one area I had a concern over but, again, they are just as easy to burn as wooden pellets.
We also have a small flock of chickens and have always used wetted wooden pellets for them too, they much prefer the softer straw pellets and it keeps things a lot cleaner in their coop than the wooden ones used to. All of the chicken bedding onced used goes straight on the compost and seems to decompose easier than the wooden pellets did; that due to the amount I was adding would make for a very 'woody' finished compost.
All in all, I would highly recommed Straw pellets from Concord Equestrian as an excellent alternative cat litter to wooden pellets, plus they are half the price and a far more sustainable and eco-friendly product that are sourced and produced right here in the UK.’
