Having seen many posts recently about dogs and cats etc going missing or being found, I have just purchased a microchip scanner. Although a very basic model, it really can help reunite pets with owners, so along as owners note the following 3 things. Firstly, owners should make a note of their animal’s chip number. Secondly, the owner must keep records up to date with the microchipping company. Thirdly, if an animal does go missing, it should be reported on the microchip website immediately.
My scanner is only a very basic scanner and will only show owner’s details if all records have been kept up to date and the animal has been reported as missing. I’m sure that other organisations such as vets and rescue centres have better access to owners details on more sophisticated devices, even if an animal hasn’t been reported as missing.
Microchip numbers are often shown on vaccination cards. If you can’t find your pet’s microchip number I am prepared to do a scan so that you can record the number - free of charge for this service. Also, if ever you come across a stray animal I am also prepared to do a scan in the hope that the animal is registered and has been reported as missing. Again, no charge for this service.
However, as pet owners there is nothing better than a pet wearing an identity tag on a collar or wearing some sort of tracking device. I am prepared to give you my own opinion on some tracking devices if you DM me. Thank you.
