Thank you everyone for your understanding this week. It has been the worst week of my life and all of your kind messages and support have meant so much.
I lost my dear friend Mungo in horrible circumstances on Wednesday morning. It was sudden, totally unexpected and I sadly couldn’t be with him when he passed. The grief and shock has knocked me sideways, more than I ever thought was possible but Louise has been fantastic to step in and cover my work while I haven’t been much use to anyone.
Mungo was a huge part of my life; he moved to Hampshire with me 5 years ago and has been by my side ever since. He spent weeks in bed with me in 2021 following my pelvic fractures, he’s attended nearly all of my out of hours calls in the middle of the night or on weekends, been my support buddy following euthanasias and difficult visits and regularly joined us out hacking with the horses. He’s been on numerous holidays with us and loved the beach. His favourite place was definitely asleep on my lap where he spent a large proportion of his life!
He was the smallest dog (4kg) with the biggest personality and his loss has been earth shattering.
I’ll be back to work on Monday and will contact all those who had their visits postponed so we can reschedule as soon as possible.
Thank you again for all of the kindness. I feel as though I have such a wonderful community of support and I am so grateful. Thankfully I still have Reggie to keep my lap warm while I mourn the loss of my little friend.
All my love,
Grace x

My gorgeous boy Mungo has suddenly passed away this morning in awful circumstances.
I am absolutely devastated, he has been by my side through all of the highs and lows of the last 5 years and I can’t imagine my life without him.
Louise has very kindly stepped up today to cover routine appointments and emergencies.

I will reply to any messages as soon as I can.
Thanks for your understanding,

Grace x

🔴Equine Herpes Virus vaccinations:🔴

We’ve had several enquires regarding EHV vaccinations due to the recent report of a confirmed case in Surrey.

Equine Herpesvirus (EHV) is a contagious virus that can cause respiratory illness, abortion in pregnant mares, and neurological disorders such as Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy (EHM).

🩺 Vaccination Schedule

• Primary Series: Two doses given 4–6 weeks apart
• Pregnant Mares: Boosters during the 5th, 7th, and 9th months of gestation
• Annual Boosters: Recommended for all horses
• Semi-Annual Boosters: Advised for high-risk horses (e.g., those in breeding or competitive environments).

💡 Why Vaccinate?
Vaccination helps reduce the severity of symptoms and limits viral shedding, which is crucial for preventing outbreaks. EHV can persist in horses and be reactivated during stress, making regular vaccination an important part of herd health management.

If you’re considering EHV vaccination for your horse, please contact us on 07534531069😊

⭐ Please note that there have been minor price increases on services and products. We aim to keep these to an absolute minimum but need to keep in line with ever-rising running costs!⭐️

Thank you as always for your ongoing support - Grace 😊

Morning all, unfortunately we are dealing with lots of out-of-hours emergencies at the moment.

Don’t forgot that if you need to contact us between the hours of 5pm-8:30am or at the weekend, you need to CALL our practice line (07534531069) to speak to our on-call vet.

This number is not always a direct line to Grace so please do not call through WhatsApp, text or email in the event of an emergency. We’ve tried to simplify it as much as possible so we can get out on the road to you as soon as we can.

Unfortunately, we have had unregistered clients calling our out-of-hours team claiming to be registered to get an emergency appointment. Our team will have access to our database to prevent this from happening from now on. The same applies for bad debtors and in such cases, a significant deposit will need to be paid up front to stop us getting bitten by these people. We are a small business and cannot afford to be left with the bill.

⭐ As always, thank you to our wonderful clients who keep us out doing what we love and providing you all with a fantastic service⭐️

🌟Welcome to all of our new clients and their lovely horses, ponies and donkeys!🌟

We’ve had a huge influx of new clients in the last couple of months and are so excited to get to know you all.

With now over 1200 horses, ponies and donkeys registered, I feel that the business is financially secure enough to end our relationship with those who have taken advantage of the fact that we are a small business.

A select few clients will receive a termination of services letter next week, or CCJs for outstanding invoices dating back several months.
The clients being asked to leave are those that have repeatedly paid their invoices late (well outside the 14 day terms), set up payment plans and then not made the monthly payments on time, or been rude or disrespectful to our staff.

The relationship we have with our clients is based on trust and if we feel that our trust has been repeatedly broken, we will no longer look after you.

Thanks as always to the vast majority of our wonderful clients who make it a genuine pleasure to go to work each day!🦄

Morning all,

As we approach our 2️⃣ year anniversary, I wanted to take the opportunity to thank all of our lovely clients for their ongoing support.

We are so lucky to have such a fantastic client base! Most of the time I don’t feel as though I’m working, just catching up with friends and their horses over a cup of tea☕️

Running a business is a huge challenge and an opportunity I never thought I’d have. I’m very grateful to all of the clients and horses who have made this possible and wanted to reflect upon what makes Millar Equine Vets so special.

⭐️ Independently owned small business - one of very few, and will stay that way!

⭐️ Low staff turnover - or no staff turnover! We’re a small, dedicated team who know your horses inside and out - literally!
I can see one of my clients in a restaurant and know their full name, their horse’s names, ages, breeds, medical history, even postcode(!) as I have a terrible sense of direction(🤣) off by heart.

⭐️ Fair costs of services - we don’t aim to be a ‘cheap’ veterinary practice. We know the excellent standards of care that we provide, however we are fair and reasonable. We provide an Equine Health scheme to spread the cost of routine treatments for those who prefer to pay monthly.

⭐️ Owned and run by a horse owner🦄 Who will wave frantically at you in a warmup arena, possibly going by very quickly on a giant white horse. Equally likely to be found face down in the mud having been pulled over by a small feral Shetland👹

⭐️ Excellent clinical care🩺 We work tirelessly to provide your horses, ponies and donkeys with the most up-to-date, evidence based veterinary care.

Whether it’s supporting you through the loss of a dear friend, celebrating with you over the wins (however large or small they may be) or just surviving winter with someone who understands, Millar Equine Vets is here for all of your veterinary needs.

If you’d like to register with us, please email us at [email protected] 😊

Grace x
