After an... 'interesting' intereation and conversation with a fellow professional this week. It had me thinking to how I work with horses, personally, and what i want to achieve from it. My main aim, genuinely is to have a horse to WANTS to for me, not has tooo.

To have a horse want to cooperate rather than be forced requires building a foundation of trust and positive reinforcement through clear, consistent, and gentle training methods that focus on the horse's natural instincts and understanding. This involves observing the horse's body language, understanding its motivators, and using rewards to encourage desired behaviors, creating a partnership built on mutual understanding rather than dominance. By building a relationship based on trust and understanding, you can shift from forcing a horse to perform to creating a partnership where the horse genuinely wants to work with you.

Cherelle Veterinary Physiotherapy

Yesterday my boys had their regular physio session with Cherelle.
We work closely together to keep the boys happy, comfortable and working to their best so they can enjoy their work.

Cherelle works using a combination of manual techniques, massage, mobilisations, PEMF therapy, therapeutic ultrasound, laser/light therapy
All hands on so she can feel in the horses body where the treatments are needed.

One of the hardest things for everyone to learn is to put down the walls we build, and allow ourselves to be our true, authentic self. Being vulnerable and giving up control goes against all of our instincts (for both us, and the horse), but it’s also the only way for true learning to occur. You see, your horse doesn’t understand how to pretend to be anyone other than himself. In order to earn his trust, you have to be genuine or he will see right through you

The special relationship between a horse and rider is often described as a deep bond built on trust, mutual understanding, and a strong emotional connection, where the horse can sense and respond to their rider's emotions, allowing for a unique level of communication and partnership beyond just commands; essentially, it's a team dynamic where both individuals rely on each other and can provide comfort and support.

Intuition and sensitivity:
Horses are highly perceptive animals that can pick up on subtle changes in their rider's body language, voice tone, and energy levels, allowing them to adapt their behavior accordingly.

Non-verbal communication:
Much of the communication between a horse and rider happens through subtle cues like body posture, weight distribution, and leg aids, not just verbal commands.

Emotional connection:
A rider can feel a sense of calm and well-being when riding a trusted horse, while the horse may also seek comfort and reassurance from their rider.

Shared experience:
Spending time together in training, riding, and caring for the horse builds a deep connection and shared understanding.

Mutual respect:
A successful horse-rider relationship is based on respect for each other's abilities and limitations.
