⚠️ Important information for local dog owners ⚠️

We have been made aware of a reported case of canine parvovirus (parvo) in the local area in BD16, St Ives.

Parvo is a highly contagious virus that spreads through infected faeces and contaminated ground, shoes, paws and objects. It can survive in the environment for many months, so it’s worth being extra cautious.

Signs to look out for include:
• Lethargy or unusual tiredness
• Loss of appetite
• Fever
• Vomiting
• Severe diarrhoea (sometimes bloody)
• Dehydration
• Weakness or collapse

Puppies and unvaccinated dogs are most at risk, but vaccination provides excellent protection for the vast majority of dogs.

The good news is that most fully vaccinated adult dogs are well protected. If you’re unsure whether your dog’s vaccinations or boosters are up to date, it’s worth speaking to your vet.

This post is intended to inform, not alarm. Please continue to enjoy your walks while taking sensible precautions, such as avoiding any known affected areas, keeping vaccinations up to date, and contacting your vet promptly if your dog develops any of the symptoms above. Early veterinary treatment can make a significant difference, and staying informed is the best way to help keep our dogs safe. 🐾
