As the nights draw in, the world looks and sounds very different to your pup.
Halloween, Bonfire Night, Christmas visitors, parties, and dark walks all bring new experiences - sometimes exciting, sometimes overwhelming.
Now’s the perfect time to start preparing.
✨ Introduce new sounds gradually - fireworks, doorbells, crowds. The hiss and swirl sound of wet tyres on the road, can also be frightening for some puppies.
✨ Your pup might be feeling the cold and dislike the rain - introduce a fleece or jumper using the same gradual method you've used for their collar or harness.
✨ Create distance at first around bright lights and moving cars at night. Watch and be responsive to your pups body language.
✨ Build confidence with short, positive outings in different lighting conditions.
✨ Work on settling while there’s background noise or movement around.
✨ Plan ahead and start working towards what you’d like your pup to do during family gatherings - whether that’s resting calmly on a mat, greeting politely, or relaxing in another room.
A little preparation now means less stress later.
