Pillow Wad

Pillow Wad Producing the most nutritious pet food & bedding here on our farm, one eco-friendly bag at a time.

Hay, we’re Pillow Wad - we make hay when the sun shines…literally! Producing the ripest, most nutritious pet food and bedding nationwide from our centrally located farm in rural Northamptonshire. We’ve been around a long time, and like the best family recipes, this knowledge has been passed down to the next generation…

Founded by Chris Peel-Yates in the 1980’s, Pillow Wad was classed as what we n

ow call a ‘side-hustle’, a way to generate extra income alongside our dairy herd and arable farm. Fast forward 30 years, and we now have a beloved business making natural hay products for a variety of pets with an incredible team led by Chris, his son, Will Peel-Yates and wife Liz. From our hay to our straw, bedding, and 'Nibbley Bit' herbs - our mission is to make the best quality pet products here at the farm (or through our trusted local farmer network) with the least impact on our planet and the environment.

Let’s make a hay tray for Toast! 🐹🌿

First things first, a soft layer of Eco-Nest - perfect for digging, burrowing and getting cosy 💚

Next comes a generous helping of Meadow Hay, a natural mix of grasses, herbs and flowers that’s ideal for everyday munching.

Then a sprinkle of Timothy Hay for a different texture. Its long, coarse stalks are naturally high in fibre, helping to support healthy digestion and dental wear while adding even more foraging fun

Finally, add a Guinea pig 🐹

Just a happy chicken enjoying her Eco-Nest! 🐔💚

Soft, cosy and perfect for a good scratch about!

Eco-Nest is made from recycled, virgin cardboard and is super soft, double dust extracted, and highly absorbent, making it a great choice for keeping little homes fresh and comfortable.

Whether it’s for nesting, snoozing or simply scratching around, it’s bedding that’s sure to get the peck of approval! ✨

Does anyone else have chickens that love Eco-Nest? We’d love to see them! 📸

So light and fluffy, Will can lift a whole bale! 💪🌾

Our Barley Straw is the perfect choice for rabbits to burrow, scratch and explore. It creates a cosy environment while encouraging their natural behaviours 🐰💚

The long, coarse stalks make a great nibble, helping to keep those ever-growing teeth in tip-top shape. (Just remember, straw is a tasty extra - not a substitute for hay!) 🌿

Have your little ones tried Barley Straw yet?

Get to know Will & Liz! 👋💚

Ever wondered why we rarely film videos together? Wonder no more…

Liz gets the giggles, Will forgets what he’s meant to say and we end up with a million bloopers!

Despite that, we thought we’d give it a go and share a little more about who we are, what we do, and the people behind Pillow Wad.

Hopefully this video answers a few of your questions… and if not, pop them in the comments below! We’d love to hear from you 💚

Charity of the Year Update 🧡

Our 2026 Charity of the Year is Freddie’s Future, a fantastic charity that supports the incredible work of the Bone Cancer Research Trust in funding research and improving treatment for primary bone cancers.

Thanks to your amazing support, we’ve already raised £1,300 in just six months! 🎉

For every order placed on our website, we donate 20p to help make a difference. Every bag of hay, every forage and every bedding order helps us get one step closer to supporting this important cause.

A huge thank you to each and every one of you. We couldn’t do it without your support, and we can’t wait to see how much more we can raise together by the end of the year 🧡

The moment we’ve been waiting for… baling! 🌾🚜

After days of sunshine and plenty of turning, it’s finally time to bale the hay.

The baler travels along the rows, picking up the hay and packing it into neat, tightly bound bales, ready to head back to the barn.

This is one of our favourite parts of the harvest - seeing all that hard work come together! 💚

Bean and Toast tucking into Flower Forage!

It’s packed with a beautiful blend of marigold, hibiscus, rose, blue & pink cornflowers, and mallow flowers 🌺

Not only does it look and smell amazing, but it’s also bursting with natural goodness. Rich in fibre, vitamins and antioxidants, it’s a fantastic way to add variety to your little ones’ diet while encouraging natural foraging behaviours.

Simply sprinkle over hay or scatter around their home for a tasty, enriching treat they’ll love! 🌼

Next up… rowing up! 🌾🚜

After tedding, it’s time to row the hay up ready for baling.

It’s exactly as it sounds! The hay is gathered from being spread across the field into long, neat rows, ready for the baler to collect.

One step closer to turning our grass into the tasty Meadow Hay your little ones love 💚

Next stop… baling! 👀

Next up… tedding! 🌾🚜

Once the grass has been mown, it’s time to fluff it up and get it moving.

The tedder spreads and turns the grass to make sure it dries evenly in the sunshine, helping speed up the process of turning fresh grass into the hay your little ones love

3 turns with the Tedder over a few days and it’s dried 🌞💚

Stay tuned for the next step…
