Bedlington terrier

Characteristics: Spirited, full of confidence, good tempered, having an affectionate nature and dignified, not shy or nervous. An intelligent companion with strong sporting instincts 🥎

What they were bred for: From the Northumberland mining town of Bedlington, these dogs were bred to be a dispatcher of vermin from rabbit to fox 🐇🦊

Coat type: Very distinctive. Thick and linty, standing well out from skin, but not wiry. A distinct tendency to twist, particularly on head and face 🐶

Correct way to groom: The breed’s show trim requires careful sc******ng and blending around the shoulders, topline, legs, and head 🐑

Ideal schedule: brush 2-3 times a week, bathe every 4-8 weeks, clip every 6-8 ✂️

Things to keep an eye on: copper toxicosis, eye diseases, kidney disease, hip dysplasia, dental disease 🦷

Characteristics: Alert, lively, self-confident, intelligent and active 🥳

What they were bred for: used for herding cattle and sheep in the Borders and Highlands of Scotland 🐑

Coat type: Double with soft, furry, and close undercoat. Outer coat flat, harsh, strong and shaggy, free from woolliness and curl 🐾

Correct way to groom: brush 2-3 times a week, bathe every 6-8 weeks, trim for tidiness 🛁

Ideal schedule: every 6-10 weeks 🪮

Things to keep an eye on: hip dysplasia, autoimmune diseases, eye conditions, ear issues, allergies and skin problems 🤧

What they were bred for: originally bred to hunt small game and to be followed on foot 🪿

Coat type: short, dense and weatherproof coat 🐶☔️

Correct way to groom: using a rubber brush, brush 2-3 times a week. During shedding seasons (spring and autumn) everyday. Bathe every 4-8 weeks ☀️

Things to keep an eye on: ear infections, obesity, joint issues, allergies and skin issues 🫧
