💡 Collaborate, Not Compete 💡

There’s something great about two trainers coming together with the same goals, values, and training approach.

Today I teamed up with Herts Canine - Mark Mayho for two scent detection workshops with his lovely clients. It was such a brilliant day doing what I love most — teaching pet dogs scent detection.

I’ve got a full day of workshops again tomorrow and can’t wait to see more awesome dogs and owners getting stuck into scent work.

🐾 I Never Thought I’d Be a German Shepherd Owner

If you’d told me 12 years ago that I’d one day be a German Shepherd owner, I probably would’ve laughed (or maybe cried a little 😅).

Growing up, several family members had German Shepherds — my godfather, my uncle — and as a child, I’ll be honest, they terrified me. I had some pretty scary experiences with them.
So while I’ve always loved ALL dogs, German Shepherds were never a breed I imagined owning. I grew up with little Yorkshire Terriers and mixed breeds — smaller, scruffier, safe little souls.

Then I met Jamie. And with Jamie came Frankie — his six-month-old German Shepherd. Frankie was… let’s just say “complex.” Reactive to people and dogs, a bit of a resource guarder, but also deeply affectionate once you earned his trust. Frankie taught me so much as a trainer and completely reshaped how I saw the breed. Losing him suddenly at just six years old was heartbreaking.

But Frankie had already opened the door.
And then along came Nemo.

Nemo has 100% converted me to a German Shepherd lover. He’s gentle, loving, wonderful with our children, smart, and full of heart. He’s the kind of dog who just gets you.

So, from being the little girl who was once scared of German Shepherds… to the woman who can’t imagine life without one — it’s been quite a journey. ❤️ Gemma - Jamie Pound Dog Training

We’ve had a busy few days running both our Recall Workshop and Loose Lead Workshop — giving each dog and handler plenty of exercises and practical training tips to keep building their skills in real-life situations. 🐾

My name is Jamie, and I am the founder of Chorleywood Dog Training, Berkhamsted Dog Training, and UK Sniffer Dogs.

With my wife Gemma, we have have successfully been running our dog training company for pet dogs in Hertfordshire for many years. We are passionate about the benefits of Scentwork for dogs, and owners, and set up UK Sniffer Dogs in 2018.

Our Scentwork courses for instructors are run throughout the UK, however we also offer online courses from our UK Sniffer Dogs website.
