🦎 Moorish Gecko – Europe’s Master Climber! 🦎
The Moorish Gecko is a fascinating species known for its incredible camouflage, rugged appearance, and impressive climbing abilities. Native to southern Europe and North Africa, these hardy little geckos are full of character and make a brilliant display species.
🌿 Care Requirements
• Arboreal-style enclosure with cork bark, branches, and climbing surfaces
• Warm temperatures of 24–30°C with a basking area around 32–35°C
• Moderate humidity with regular light misting
• UVB lighting is highly beneficial for long-term health
• Plenty of hiding places to help them feel secure
🍽️ Diet
Moorish Geckos thrive on a diet of appropriately sized live insects, including crickets, locusts, roaches, and occasional waxworms as treats. Insects should be dusted regularly with calcium and vitamin supplements.
📏 Size
Adults typically reach 5–7 inches (13–18cm) in total length, making them a manageable species for most keepers.
😊 Temperament
Alert, active, and inquisitive. While they can become accustomed to their keeper’s presence, they are generally best appreciated as a display species rather than a handling pet. Most activity occurs during the evening and nighttime hours.
💡 Fun Fact
Moorish Geckos have specially adapted toe pads that allow them to climb almost any surface, including smooth glass and even ceilings! They can also change their colour slightly to better blend into their surroundings.
With their prehistoric appearance, fascinating behaviour, and excellent climbing skills, Moorish Geckos are a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a unique and rewarding gecko species. 🦎✨
