We are excited to announce that we will be at Ceredigion Nature Festival on the 11th July, along with many other amazing nature and wildlife organisations, creative stalls, entertainment and more!

We will be focusing on our Harvest Mouse project and giving out information on how to get involved with our surveying efforts next season, should anyone wish to join us. Make sure you head on over to our stall and have a chat with our keepers!

The Bank of England is developing the next series of banknotes, with the theme being nature and British wildlife! You can vote for which animals you would most like to see represented on the new notes from a shortlist of iconic British species, such as the Barn Owl! Our stunning Ghost would look perfect on a crisp £20 note 💷💷

We are looking for volunteers to join our team, particularly from now and over the summer!

Whether you can spare a few hours or a few days a week, we are looking for people to help with our daily animal care and site upkeep. We currently have availability for Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday volunteers.

It was only for a few seconds, but did you catch our manager, Tracy, on Wales Today last night, explaining how we keep our animals cool in this hot weather?

26/05/2026

It is another HOT one today ☀️ so if you are visiting us, be like Steve the Emu and drink plenty of water! And as we don’t have lots of feathers to protect us from the sun, don’t forget your sun cream too 🧴

Our Café is stocked with plenty of ice creams and cold drinks to keep you cool during this heatwave.

Please note - whilst the weather is this hot, we will not be doing our Animal Handling sessions in the petting barn.

Okay, so our last post may have been a bit misleading.

We’ve had a LOT of new animals join us this week. A new rabbit, new Guinea pigs, new mice, and the one you’ve been waiting for…..

A Raven!

There were some great guesses on that post, but unfortunately no, it wasn’t an elephant! We hope our guests enjoy meeting these lovely new additions to the Animalarium.

Our new rabbit and guinea pigs need names, so please leave your suggestions below to give the team a hand 👇🏻

Our keepers had quite the journey yesterday collecting a new member of the team from Baytree Owl and Wildlife Centre! Any guesses on who they brought back with them? 👀

We were very grateful to receive a huge donation of broom heads, our animals have enjoyed giving themselves a good scratch!

Croeso!
Hello!

We are the newly formed Ceredigion and Mid-Wales Harvest Mouse Project.

Formed by keepers at Borth Animalarium, the project aims to fill empty gaps in the monitoring for Eurasian Harvest Mice in the UK. This part of Wales is very under-surveyed, so the team want to help fill the map!

As we are operating out of Borth Animalarium, we are also fortunate to house some captive-bred individuals to act as ambassadors for their species, so look out for events where you can come and meet our tiniest residents.

We will also be looking for volunteer surveyors to assist us in the upcoming survey season, between October 2026 and March 2027, so keep an eye out on this page for more information.
