Friday was such a difficult day for me.

I had to say goodbye to Smokey one of my oldest furry customers who was always more than just a customer.

I really couldn't say goodbye without
honouring his memory 💔💔💔

Smokey,
you were never “just a cat.”

For ten years you were a constant,
a presence,
a little soul who felt like my own.

You were friendly until you weren’t,
soft until you chose attitude,
and somehow always exactly yourself.

You curled up beside me on the sofa,
so close you’d nearly lie on my face,
and every visit was greeted with kisses
as if I’d been gone far too long.

I still see you as you were then —
young, playful, chasing your little grey mouse,
living for food and for love in equal measure.

And later, older and wiser,
stretching out in the warm sunshine, under a hedge or sitting on the wooden chair with me. Happy just to be with me.

I’ll always remember calling your name,
opening the patio door,
and watching you come flying in from the garden,
or straight from the house,
leaping onto the counter
just for one more kiss.

Now you rest beyond the Rainbow Bridge,
where the sun is always warm
and the garden never ends.

I hope you’re running freely,
waiting patiently,
until the day we meet again.

You were a character,
a comfort,
a quiet joy.

Forever loved.
Forever remembered. 🌈🐾
