✨ Exciting News! ✨
I'm delighted to announce that I have now achieved my Level 5 Advanced Diploma in Mare Intimate Health.
This is the only UK and worldwide qualification from the Equine Intimate Health Federation & UK Rural Skills, dedicated specifically to mare intimate health, giving you the confidence that your mare is receiving knowledgeable, professional care.
Many horse owners don't realise just how important intimate hygiene is for mares. Regular checks and cleaning can help maintain comfort, hygiene and overall wellbeing. A mare's intimate health is just as important as a gelding's, yet it's often overlooked.
After all, we understand the importance of our own personal hygiene, our mares deserve the same level of care and attention.
What can an Equine Hygienist do?
🐴 Geldings • Thorough sheath clean • Removal of excess sm**ma • Full pe**le clean • Removal of beans • General health check of the area
🐴 Mares • Health check of the mammary glands and removal of sm**ma • Health check of the vulval area • Gentle cleaning and removal of sm**ma • Removal of beans (yes, mares can develop beans too, although they are usually much smaller than those found in geldings)
What an Equine Hygienist CANNOT do.
It's important to understand the role of an Equine Hygienist.
During a health check, if I notice anything unusual or of concern, I will always advise you to contact your veterinarian for further investigation.
I can identify and flag potential concerns, but I cannot diagnose medical conditions.
By law, diagnosis can only be made by a qualified veterinarian.
Any hygienist who provides a diagnosis is working outside their legal scope of practice, which undermines the professionalism and reputation of qualified equine hygienists.
Your horse's health and welfare will always come first. If anything doesn't look quite right, or if you have any concerns, please contact your vet for advice.
By working together with your veterinary team, we can help ensure your horse stays comfortable, healthy and happy. ❤️
