We get asked in the shop all the time about allergies and protein intolerances, and this time of year it’s worse due to seasonal change.
Our amazing friend, Maz is going through some issues with her little dog Jen at the moment. Trying to sort out the issues and make him happier and more comfortable. We’ll be sharing their journey on the elimination diet and the tests they’re doing to get to the root problem. Give her page a follow to see updates.
Come in to the shop for a chat about what extra can be in done to help your dog.
Little Jem update… day five of the elimination diet 🤞🐾
So far we’ve noticed:
🐾 his eyes are no longer dry and crusty around the edges
🐾 his chest isn’t as red or bumpy
🐾 his paws are less red and inflamed
They still look sore I know healing will take time, but it already feels like we’re moving in the right direction.
He’s still itching a little and chewing his paws occasionally, but both are greatly reduced. I guess now we have to work out what Jem’s “normal” actually is… because let’s face it, all dogs scratch sometimes.
One thing I’m loving…he seems more relaxed and has become extra snuggly 🥹
We’re also testing his gut bacteria/microbiome with Biome4Pets (thanks Cal at Woofingtons - Bollington for the recommendation) to see if there’s anything else going on internally. There’s more and more research being done into the links between gut health, allergies and even behaviour, so it felt important to us to look at the full picture rather than just the symptoms.
We’re still very early in the process and I know I get overly optimistic but for now, seeing him a little more comfortable already feels like a huge win ❤️
Poo results next…😂
