🐾 Just a little reminder… 🥰

I know it might seem early to be thinking this far ahead (I’m definitely not wishing the year away! 😂), but I wanted to remind everyone that block booking is always available.

Lots of appointments are already booked well in advance, including December, so if you prefer to keep your dog on a regular grooming schedule or have a favourite day and time, booking ahead is the best way to secure them.

Whether you visit every 4, 6, 8 or 10 weeks, I’m more than happy to book your appointments for the rest of the year so you don’t have to worry about remembering each time.

Just send me a message and I’ll get everything sorted for you. 🐶🤍

How has Pablo grown up so quickly?! 🥹🐾

The first photo was from Pablo’s very first puppy groom… fast forward to today, and look at him now.

It’s such a privilege watching my puppy clients grow up and being a small part of their journey. From a tiny fluffball to a beautiful young Chow, he’s grown into such a handsome boy, and it’s been lovely seeing his confidence grow with every visit. 🤎

People often ask what my favourite part of dog grooming is, and it’s this.

The little welcomes, the excited tails, the cuddles, the trust they build with me, and watching their personalities shine through with every visit. Every dog leaves a little paw print on my heart, and I genuinely love each and every one that comes through my door🫶🏻

🐾 A little reminder about double-coated breeds during the warmer weather… ☀️

As the temperatures rise, I receive a lot of requests to shave double-coated dogs because owners are worried they’re too hot. I completely understand where this comes from, but in most cases, shaving a healthy double coat actually does more harm than good.

A double coat is designed to help regulate your dog’s body temperature. It keeps them warm in winter, but it also provides insulation in summer, helping to protect them from the heat and harmful UV rays. Shaving it away can interfere with this natural process and may increase the risk of overheating, sunburn and permanent coat damage.

Common double-coated breeds include:
🐾 Golden Retrievers
🐾 Labrador Retrievers
🐾 German Shepherds
🐾 Border Collies
🐾 Siberian Huskies
🐾 Alaskan Malamutes
🐾 Chow Chows
🐾 Akitas
🐾 Samoyeds
🐾 Pomeranians
🐾 Shiba Inus
🐾 Shetland Sheepdogs
🐾 Australian Shepherds
🐾 Old English Sheepdogs
🐾 Newfoundlands
🐾 Bernese Mountain Dogs
🐾 Welsh Corgis
🐾 Keeshonds
🐾 Rough & Smooth Collies
🐾 Some Working Cocker Spaniels

So, what can you do instead to help keep them cool?

✔️ Book regular de-shedding appointments to remove loose undercoat and improve airflow.
✔️ Brush them regularly at home to prevent the coat becoming compacted.
✔️ Make sure they always have access to plenty of fresh, cool water.
✔️ Walk them early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler.
✔️ Provide shade and avoid the hottest part of the day.
✔️ Use cooling mats, damp towels or let them enjoy a paddle in safe water.

Please understand that as a professional groomer, my priority is always your dog’s health and welfare. For that reason, I won’t shave a healthy double-coated breed simply because the weather is warm. My role isn’t just to groom dogs, it’s to advise owners on what’s best for their coat and overall wellbeing.

Thank you for understanding and helping us keep our furry friends safe and comfortable this summer. 🐶💙

🐾 Just a little update! 🐾

I’ll be catching up on all messages and enquiries today, so if you’re still waiting for a reply, thank you for your patience. It’s been a very busy month here at Barks & Bubbles! 🐾

I’m now fully booked for July and only have a few appointments left in August. If you’d like to get your dog booked in, please send me a message or give me a call as soon as possible to secure one of the remaining slots.

I’ve also opened up Wednesdays to help fit everybody in and offer a few extra appointments. 🐶🤍

Looking forward to seeing lots of familiar faces and welcoming some new ones over the next couple of months! 🐶🤍

☀️Due to the temperatures forecast for tomorrow, I have decided to close the salon for the day.

The welfare of the dogs in my care will always come first. With the heat we’re expecting, I do not feel it is appropriate for dogs to be travelling, being groomed and spending time in a salon environment.

During hot weather, please make sure your dogs have access to plenty of fresh water, shaded areas to rest, and avoid walks during the hottest parts of the day. Early morning and late evening walks are best, and always check the temperature of pavements before taking your dog out.

If you have an appointment with me tomorrow, I am currently in the process of getting in touch to arrange another appointment.

I will continue to assess the temperatures each day and make decisions based on what is safest and most comfortable for the dogs.

Thank you for your understanding.

🎉 Barks & Bubbles Turns One! 🎉

One year ago today, I took a leap and opened Barks & Bubbles.

It’s hard to put into words how much this past year has meant to me. What started as an idea and a passion for working with dogs has grown into something I’m incredibly proud of.

I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many wonderful dogs, getting to know their unique personalities, and building trust with them along the way. Seeing nervous dogs settle, excited dogs run through the door, and owners leave happy with their dog’s groom makes every day worthwhile.

To everyone who has booked an appointment, recommended me, shared my posts, or supported my business in any way, thank you. Your support has helped make my first year such a special one.

Running my own business has been one of the biggest challenges I’ve taken on, but it’s also been one of the most rewarding.

Thank you for being part of the first chapter of Barks & Bubbles. Here’s to many more to come. ❤️🐾
