Where it all began… 🌿
My name Nicola Butler some of you may have seen me round the centre
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit of my heart and the story behind how Sedgley Adventure Centre was truly born.
My path started at 22, during a time when I felt completely lost. I was drifting without a sense of purpose or direction, and my world had been quite turbulent up until that point. I realised that if I was ever going to find myself, I had to look inward and look after my inner well-being. That decision changed the trajectory of my life forever.
I began my career working at a holistic centre, where I quickly moved into leadership. After managing the centre for some time, I took the leap and purchased the business, becoming the owner and running it successfully for many years. This was a period of immense growth where i dedicated my life to creating a sanctuary for others and myself to heal. I have taught countless people in both groups and deep one-to-one sessions, helping them navigate their own journeys. My philosophy has always been about manifesting inner peace first; you have to create the abundance within yourself before you can create the abundance outside of yourself.
Throughout this journey, I then Started to travel to India many times to return to the roots of these practices through meditation and yoga. I’ve also remained incredibly keen on fitness and health, I truly believe that connecting your physical health to your mind and spirit is the key to total well-being.
When I had my two younger daughters, bringing my family to six children altogether, my inspiration shifted. I knew I didn't want to practice in a traditional centre environment anymore. I wanted to create something entirely new from my own vision a nature based sanctuary.
We started this with the bit of land you see today with just four chickens and 3 volunteers, who I’m proud to say are still with me today as employed staff. Alongside another 40 volunteers who are creating a sanctuary with me for you to visit with your family, I wanted a place that felt like a back garden relaxed, non-commercial, and tranquil where families, children's , special needs groups could all find peace in a nature based environment.
I’ve just returned from another three week journey to India, and that original calling has been reignited with a new fire. Not that it ever went away, I’ve just been using it for a different purpose here at the Sedgley Adventure Centre and my alternative provision Nature’s Pathway. But now, at 48 and in the fittest physically mentally and emotionally peak of my life, I feel I have created everything I’ve ever needed to create to this point.
It is finally time for me to integrate my holistic roots back into the Sedgley Adventure Centre. I am now opening up my nature based meditations session to start with, then to come yoga sessions, nature fitness, one-to-one and well-being retreats once again. I’ve spent my life building this vision, and now I want to give back to our community in every capacity.
Whether you visit us for a family day out or join me to work on your own inner well-being, I look forward to seeing you at Sedgley.
Watch this space for more coming soon! My nature based meditation is now fully booked and we have a waiting list for anyone who wants to join.
