🌞 ☀️ keeping cool... with temperatures extremely high I've been working hard to pull pups in for grooms when conditions are safe 7am starts by 12 it's to dangerous I regularly monitor temperatures and the thermostat in the puphut. The last few days have shown by 12 that's when I close (or before if I'm finished for the day anyway)
Please be considerate with walking your pups to and from home
the 5 second hand test on the pavement is a great check.
If your unable to move your appointment earlier during this heatwave we will have to reschedule.
Heat stroke in dogs is something I've worked with to often in vets and I'm very passionate about avoiding this at all costs. My clients welfare will always come first.
Some fun ideas to keep pups cool like Murphy is homeade ice pops with dog safe fruits or veggies or even frozen kibble in a Kong or lick Matt too. Cooling matts fresh drinking water fruit bobbing in water bowls is fun too cooling jackets paddling pool fun fans and just kinda not pestering them when they are hot and bothered a bit like us! Shaded walks early or later in the evening setting up tasks inside if that's what your pups into. There's lots of fun things to try 🥰
Do you think your pup is overheating? Get them cooled down popping them in the bath or shower if using the hose outside let it run for a Min first as the water will be scolding hot 🔥 with cool water saturate them down bring them inside use fans cooling matts and ensure they are drinking you can lift their lip and check for a nice salmon pink gum if they are very pale blue or blood red they need to see the vet ASAP. They can't regulate their temperature and panting is how they cool down elderly, very young, medical condition dogs and Brachycephalic I.e frenchies, pugs, bulldogs, boxers etc will need extra monitoring.
Stay safe Have fun and keep cool! 🥰
