Happy September everyone!

Back to School this week and so back to some sort of routine at last 😅

Grooming slots are booking up fast! I have 3 slots this week and only 2 next week so please get in touch if you need one! My shampoo and scissors are at the ready for a busy month! 🐾

Some of you may have already met our new pup Milo. He will sometimes be in the grooming room with me as he learns about socialising from a distance and being patient while I'm working. He's quite barky so apologies if you get a loud hello 😅
I have a strict 'No Mix' policy with any dogs that are in the salon at the same time from different families which also applies with my own dogs so he will either be in my arms or in his pen while your dog free ranges but its good for him to experience all sorts! 😍

Happy Bank Holiday folks 🐾

Thank you for your patience, over the last couple of weeks especially, as I've navigated the juggle between school holidays and business owning! I've had some quality time with the kids and 'Back To School' looms on the horizon so it will be business as usual soon again!

If you are still waiting for a reply or appointment, fear not! I will be concentrating on getting back to everyone from tomorrow and securing your pup's next groom. Spaces will be offered in the order they were requested so despite the wait, you won't have missed what there is to offer!

Last week I branched out from my usual doggy styling and switched to sheep as we approached the showing season on the farm! I'm proud to say this beauty and her partner won us the Champion rosette and trophy!! 🤩

Don't delay getting your dog booked in for their summer spruce up if you want them looking show ring ready too 🥰

A long hot day in the grooming room today but that's 5 dogs feeling more comfy in this heat so it was worth it!

Some evening sun and a cold drink when I got home.. and a mental note to get myself a pedicure 😅

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear from dog owners is about bathing...

The age old warning that bathing your dog too often is no good for them doesn't really stand anymore. These days there are some amazing shampoos and conditioners made especially for canines with their skin pH and coat needs in mind.

If your dog is dirty? Wash 'em! If they've rolled in something questionable and stink? Wash 'em!

As long as you work the shampoo in properly and rinse it out thoroughly, you will do no harm. HOWEVER... always make sure you brush through long/woolly/curly coats and remove knots and tangles before you bathe and in cooler weather make sure your dog is dried well too.

Ask me about the best shampoo for washing at home or how 'inbetween' baths work on dogs with grooming schedules! 🐾

If I could go back and tell myself one thing when I started my.dog grooming journey it would be to embrace all the opportunities and enjoy them....

And do you know what? I think I did just that a lot of the time! Over 25 years ago, 18 year old me didn't know which way life was going to send me, but watching an Airedale get handstripped at a kennels I worked at, ignited a spark of a new idea and that was it, I was off!

From learning, to working at a salon, to teaching others and then to running my own grooming business. I sometimes still need to pinch myself that I've managed to make a living from a skill a lot of people would still never think of learning!

And I still love it as much today as the beaming teenager strutting her stuff at a College Open Day with a purple poodle did, all those years ago!

'Why is my dog so worried about being groomed?'

One of the most common questions I get asked is if I can accomodate an anxious pet.

Some dogs have had a bad experience with grooming at home or elsewhere and many have just never enjoyed the whole process....My answer? Dogs aren't all born loving the grooming experience and for some the stress of the drier or the dread of a nail trim can override the whole appointment.

I will never force a dog to do something that terrifies them but there are many ways round each part of the groom and this is why you'll sometimes see me sat on the floor drying a dog that doesn't like the table or trimming nails one by one through a groom instead of waiting until the end and doing them all.

I couldn't be more thrilled with how busy I'm getting in the grooming room, it's so much fun every day seeing pups return and come in wagging or meeting new doggos! However it does mean it's getting harder to book those last minute appointments! I do still occasionally have 'next day' slots but on the whole if you want a time that suits your plans then let me know in good time before Fido is too hairy!

Also please note that each individual dog takes the time that it takes so don't be offended if I tell you there's nothing til July and then offer your neighbour a same day cancellation, it might be that the time frame available won't work for the style/size of your dog but will for theirs. I try and be as fair as I can for everyone!

Another note is that my phone reception is dodgy in the salon and I'm also usually busy with a groom/have hairdryers on so I won't often answer the phone in work hours. For fastest response then send me a WhatsApp but I will return missed calls at the end of the day too! 😊🐾
