🐮 Patient updates 🐮

We have received a lovely update from one of the weekend’s on-call cases.

On Saturday Charlotte carried out a caesarean on this cow after she ran into difficulties calving, successfully delivering a healthy calf.

We were delighted to receive these photos from the farmer a few days later with reports of both cow and calf doing well.

After a busy weekend, updates like these mean a lot.

🍦Thank you!🍦

Huge thank you to for the best surprise to end the week… a tub of their delicious handmade ice cream, straight from their own dairy cows!

Safe to say it didn’t last long… a perfect Friday treat and very much appreciated by the whole team!

Remember the kettle is always on here, so anyone passing knows they are more than welcome to swing in for a cuppa ☕️ (bonus points if you bring ice cream though😉).

📚 Exciting news 📚

We were lucky enough to have a visit from the lovely Rachel Curtis, who came to the practice with a very special delivery for us…many goodies (more on that soon) including her recently published children’s book !

We have been avidly following Rachel’s progress over the last year as she has personally taken on the challenge of writing a book, alongside her son, Finley. So, it is brilliant to now see the finished piece!

The book, “celebrates the importance of British farming”, whilst raising awareness of “the negative effects of the family farm tax”. Not only that a portion of every book sale is going to and

We share very similar ideas when it comes to both supporting farmers and their businesses as well as supporting children in learning more about agriculture. So it made sense to team up and there are exciting things ahead!…

🌍 World Veterinary Day 🌍

Today we are celebrating World Veterinary Day, established by the . This year’s theme, “Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health,” shines a spotlight on the vital role vet teams play in protecting food safety, food security, and public health.

We are incredibly proud of our brilliant team, who work tirelessly to support farmers and care for their animals every day. From individual animal treatment to whole herd and flock health planning, their work underpins strong biosecurity, responsible medicine use, and sustainable food production, all helping to safeguard the future of our food systems.

🐑 Talking sheep 🐑

Thank you Cerne Abbas sheep group for inviting us to talk at your discussion group meeting last night. Alice was asked to talk about setting up Homefield Farm Vets and to also give updates on the latest developments in sheep veterinary medicine.

Alice enjoyed looking back through old photos whilst preparing the presentation, reminiscing fondly on the first farm jobs she had that inspired her passion for livestock care and ultimately led to the ambition of supporting the agricultural community. What better way to do this than set up a farm vet practice that puts farmers and their animals at the heart of all our decisions.

There was plenty of points for discussion when Alice gave the members the latest industry updates: Bluetongue and the advantages of vaccination, how to access funding from the Animal Health and Welfare Pathway and debate around the recent Lamb Welfare Consultation on the proposed changes to castration and tail docking methods.

Thank you to everyone who came to our first meeting on tackling TB in Dorset. We have been genuinely overwhelmed by the turnout and the positive feedback we have received.

At Homefield Farm Vets, we set-up with a clear aim: to put farmers first. A key part of that is supporting our clients through the challenges that threaten farm businesses. TB continues to have devastating impacts on animal health and welfare, human health and welfare, as well as overall farm viability, so it is important to us to explore what options are available and how we can work together to improve the current situation.

Sarah Tomlinson’s knowledge and insight on TB is truly inspirational, and we are incredibly grateful to all of our panel who helped address the many thoughtful and challenging questions raised on the night.

One of our main goals was to bring together a united front, and it was fantastic to see so many people from across the industry come together with a shared purpose.

We said on the night that we want to take forward the action points discussed, so watch this space. We will be announcing upcoming meetings where each of these will be explored in more detail.

A huge thank you to The Fox Inn Ansty for hosting us, and to our generous sponsors Assetsphere and Ceva Ruminants UK for their support in making the evening possible.

Our raffle raised money for FCN and the lucky winners enjoyed prizes donated by Hall & Woodhouse and Homefield Farm Vets.

🤜 Tackling TB in Dorset 🤛

We are looking forward to our first “farming matters” talk tonight, held in collaboration with society.

TB has devastating impacts on animal health and welfare, human health and welfare and farming businesses. So, we want to look at what more can be done, what’s new and help find ways to move forward, together in our area.

We are excited to hear the latest from followed by a Q&A with our panel (swipe to meet them all!). .livestock.auctioneers

Our panelists all have experience within different areas of TB control so we’ve got all angles covered and they are looking forward to passing on their knowledge and support.
