Morning guys!!!

I have been asked about treats, alot of you have said my dog isnt a foody/they arent interested in treats.
what's best to use for training?

When training I like to use a high reward treat something that catches their attention! (And most non treat driven dogs will love!)

You can use cheese! Chopped up cocktail sauage!
Or if ur not a fan of giving human food heres a list of what I use. I tend to mix it up abit

*Dog pate - it comes in different flavours and the dogs love it! U can cut it up how ever u like and can freeze it if u want to be prepared and have treats ready for the week!!

*Feelweels cheesy treats - they are small cheesy treats tht are perfect for pockets and put on walks!

* True instinct meat bite - come in small packets and different flavours and easy to break up!

* and Paw originals - they 80%poultry treats, grain free. Easy to put in pockets and small so no need to break them up ur chop them up!

I am also a sucker for chopping up cheese and sauage for them!

But I like to keep it interesting for them!

Well... 2020 was a funny old year and the start of 2021 has started slightly odd but fingers crossed... 2021 will be slightly more normal than last year.

With as we are all in lockdown at the current moment. Training is on hold for now But ... a few of you have asked for " home learning" (hehehee) to keep you which I'm more than happy to 😁

At any point feel free to message with any problems or questions! Hopefully we will be back soon and the weather will be Warmer 🤣😁

For all types of working dogs they need the ability to sustain a large amount of work, therefore muscle tone and stamina is highly important. Hydrotherapy, in the form of swimming, is a fun non-weight bearing exercise.

No just a 15 minute training session with his aunty heather!

Today my 4 had a fabulous time with Heather Gibson. We worked steady lead work, concentrating weaving in and out of cones, balance board, tipping board, small A frame, walking over small area and walking over poles. Maybe sound simple.... but it's hard work them! Different surroundings, different objects, different textures, and different techniques we are both adapting to.

Safe to say .... it's been a very quiet evening and I have 4 tired spainels!!!

This morning has been busy!! Rio couldnt of been happier! Hes steadiness / cold game training session turned in to steadiness /falling pigeon training 🤦‍♀️🙈! Training at HQ is never a dull moment!!!

It's that time of year!!! The partridge season is upon us and wont be long before the pheasant season is here! With lock down and covid it's been a very strange year but we have been working towards this time of year. Keeping the dogs fit, active, healthy and making sure their training is kept up to scratch is high on the priority list.
Last weekend the team had their first outing and they fully enjoyed themselves! And was very nice to get out and have a small bit of normal in life.

For those who are unaware of the signs of heat stroke and what to do in an emergency. Have a look at these pictures.

Please please remember it's the heat in general not just being shut in a hot car.
Best times to walk when the weather is this warm ... is early morning (5am /6am. This morning is was already 20 degrees at 830!) And late evening (730/8pm on wards).

Just think before stepping out for a walk

It's very roasty toasy out side guys!
I know its common sence but please please do not walk or train your dogs in the heat. It's not worth it. It can make them incredibly poorly and in the worst cases .. it can kill them!
Heat stroke / over heating is very come in all types of dogs. Just be very very careful if you do HAVE to adventure out with the dogs.

Heat stroke can kill your dog .. missing a walk will not kill your dog!

If you are unsure on the signs of heat stroke I will put a post shortly what to look out for.

Keep those furbabies safe and cool 🐾😁

Rules For Owning a Gun Dog

2. Don’t hide your excitement, let them see the kid in you.

3. Your expectations of a bird dog are high but their expectations of an owner are higher.

4. Don’t sleep on it take them to the vet.

5. Go hunting with them at least one time just the two of you.

6. Tell your new friends about your old dogs.

7. Their falses aren’t the only ones in the field.

8. Judge your hunting friends by how they treat their dogs.

9. Always stop to pet them.

10. Stop walking, sit down you will see how much they love you. Enjoy it.

11. Treat puppies like puppies and treat your 12 year old like he still is one.

12. Know when to retire them and give them everything they want. They gave you everything they had.

13. Have patience when they are hard of hearing...it’s the birds fault.

14. Show your boys that there’s reasons to be gentle in this world. Bird dogs are just one of them.

15. You helped her down the stairs when she was young now help her up them when she is old.

16. Take the picture every single damn time. It’s worth it.

17. Enjoy their determination even when it’s not after a bird.

18. When it’s time to say goodbye don’t leave his side. Hold him. He knows what’s happening and he’s happy you are with him.

19. Remember them, visit the places that made you both so happy. Think about her while you stop walking and sit down with her daughter on an October afternoon.

20. Understand that you can not fill the hole they left in your heart but remember them and they will be with you every step of the way.

Today I felt very honoured. These 3 gorgeous nova Scotia duck tolling retrieves came over to see what gundog work was all about! I think it's safe to say it was a hit!! Conlaoch , Niamh and tiny Fiadh learnt what rabbit balls, rabbit dummies and a small duck dummy was all about! In true toller style Conlaoch made it very well known he was super excited and was enjoying every minute! Niamh took everything in her stride and took everything in and baby Fiadh took to retrieving like a duck to water!!

Such a lovely breed! And not very well known on the shooting field in dorset. Maybe I can persuade heather to come and join the team!!

This little girl was stolen the night of 30th april 2020. She was taken from her home in shaftesbury dorset. Please share, someone knows where she is! Please return her! I believe she is spayed, chipped and did have a collar with a tag. Our dogs are our world and is a completely gut wrenching to think someone could take a family member.
