Sorry for any delayed replies today. I think I've caught up now!

I've been busy playing midwife and on kitten watch today with our foster cat who we have been looking after in our home for over 2 weeks.

Nellie is only a baby herself and was living as part of a semi feral colony in Blackpool (she's not feral). The rescue took her for neutering only to discover she was heavily pregnant and too far gone for surgery 🥹

So she needed a safe place to stay and have her babies. Today she had her beautiful 3 babies 🥰

Nellie and her babies will be fostered by us until ready for adoption through the rescue (although Im not sure how many will actually be allowed to leave this house 🙈)

If any of you wonderful lot have any kitten food, cat food (wet or dry), treats, wood based litter, puppy pads etc then they can be dropped off here or if you wish to have any donations delivered here then they would be greatly received.

Obviously kitten food will be much needed for Nellie and her babies in the coming weeks and anything surplus can be distributed to the other amazing fosterers.
The rescue are currently helping a high numbers of cats and kittens and rely heavily on these donations to keep helping more animals in need!

News from Defra for XL Bully owners ❗

From 1st July 2026, the legal requirement to hold third-party insurance will be removed. Owners must keep their third-party public liability insurance in place until at least 30th June 2026 for their Certificate of Exemption to remain valid.

Owners must continue to comply with all other conditions of their Certificate of Exemption at all times. This includes important safeguards such as keeping dogs muzzled and on a lead in public, and ensuring they are kept securely and responsibly at home.

We do not agree with Breed Specific Legislation, and continue to lobby for a holistic approach to responsible dog ownership. 🚨 Canine Cough 🚨

AKA Kennel cough/influenza

Unfortunately this strain seems to be lingering. I know a number of facilities have had issues, and I've seen posts on local sites about it being in the area.
Dogs can pick it up anywhere, but is more prevalent in areas with high numbers of dogs (kennels, day care, groomers, vets, play parks etc)

🔴 Please do not bring your dog if it has symptoms
🔴 It is highly contagious - airborne and direct contact
🔴 Contagious before and after any symptoms
🔴 Dogs can be carriers without ever developing symptoms
🔴 Most dogs recover within a few days without the need for any treatment (always seek veterinary advice if your dog is particuarly unwell)
🔴 Vaccinated dogs can also catch it
🔴 Honey and Coconut oil added to food can help with sore throat symptoms

We will refuse any dog with symptoms. We have strict hygiene measures, using DEFRA approved disinfectant which works on these viruses/bacteria, but as its airborne its difficult to stop any spread.

If anyone has any concerns or worries then please message me.
Just like sending your kids to nursery and school they all pass everything on to each other!

Who would have thought this all started from buying a piece of land, converting some stables and getting a licence, and its led us to here!

📢 The dreaded Canine Cough 📢
(AKA Kennel Cough)

Today we had 2 suspected cases of canine cough (1 day care and 1 boarder who has now gone home).
This evening I have had 2 further day care dogs reported to me with symptoms.

Please can everyone keep a close eye on your dogs, particularly the day care and if coughing then please do not bring them in to the kennels.
You will be refused entry if your dog is coughing.
Unfortunately dogs are contagious before any symptoms show and so it could have been any dog in the last 14 days that was the carrier. Some dogs may never show any symptoms.

Canine cough can be picked up anywhere, but is prevelant in places where there are lots of dogs. Vaccinated dogs can also carry or develop canine cough due to the number of different strains.

We will as always keep up with our stringent cleaning procedures but additional disinfecting will be done throughout the day as a precaution.

Most dogs will recover on their own without any need for veterinary treatment BUT if you are concerned or your dog becomes particuarly unwell then please do seek veterinary attention.
Natural remedies of coconut oil and honey added to their food can help with any symptoms.

Please let me know if your dog is unable to attend due to any coughing or being unwell.
