Marieth Shires is a small family concern based in the heart of Lancashire, who have been breeding shires for a number of years. Phillip, who grew up with horses had a very strong passion to work with then. On leaving school he followed a career as a farrier and gained an apprenticeship with the very famous Thwaites Brewery where he first started working with shires. He was extremely lucky to spend

time and gained his knowledge and experience from the older generation of some of the very best shire men in the country, also becoming very good friends with them. Phillip’s son- Matthew, left school wanting to follow in his fathers footsteps as a registered farrier. He also has a very strong passion in shire horses and also shows, shoes and breeds them. This love of shires has evolved to them both becoming approved shire horse judges.
