βοΈ Hot weather warning for pet owners βοΈ
With temperatures rising this week, please remember that heat can become dangerous for our pets very quickly. Dogs, cats, rabbits and other small animals can all struggle in warm weather, especially brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds, older pets and those with underlying health conditions.
πΎ Top tips to keep pets safe:
π§ Ensure fresh water is always available
π³ Walk dogs early morning or later in the evening
π Never leave pets in cars, even for a few minutes
π₯ Avoid hot pavements which can burn paws
βοΈ Keep pets cool and shaded indoors
Please remember β it will not harm your dog to miss a walk during extreme heat. On very hot days, staying cool and safe is far more important. Instead, consider enrichment activities at home such as puzzle feeders, sniff games or short training sessions indoors.
If your pet seems lethargic, excessively panting, vomiting, drooling, collapsing or distressed, please contact us immediately as these may be signs of heatstroke.
Weβre also pleased to reassure clients that our practice is fully air conditioned to help keep patients comfortable during visits and hospitalisation in the warmer weather.
Stay safe and keep cool everyone! βοΈπΆπ±
