An interesting and potentially life changing opportunity for horse owners in Swansea ! Ingeborg Taffijn is coming from Belgium to the U.K. and will be making her first trip to Swansea.
We are delighted to be hosting a 2 hour workshop in Bishopston on Sunday 3rd April at 9.30 am, where Inge will cover both theory and demonstrate practical advice for ways to empower horse owners in how to check the safe fitting of your saddle for the health of your horse and for your comfort and optimal alignment .
Ingeborg is the Europe’s only Saddlefit 4 Life Saddle Ergonomist and Technition , having trained with eminent master saddler , Jochen Schleese.
Schleese’s pioneering approach can be seen in his YouTube videos and through his website.
As a young man, Schleese had a beloved horse destroyed due to the damage from a poorly fitting saddle . He has made it his life work to ensure that he spreads the word and shares knowledge on how to protect our cherished four legged friends !
Having suffered with hip health as a rider , Ingeborg has transformed her riding from working with the Schleese approach to saddlery .
Ingeborg will be offering a workshop and will also be available to visit your local yard for further consultations, by appointment. She is able to re-flock and make adjustments to your saddle on site if needed .
Inge will also be bringing stock of Schleese saddles , should you be interested in investing in a saddle which is specifically designed for female hip shape and female alignment . This is all with the intention of bringing harmony for your riding experience and wellbeing for you and your horse .

Hoofcare tip to start the week.

As we come out of a very wet winter and start to experience some welcome dry and warm weather, the ground in turnout paddocks has become very sticky due to mud trying out. This can lead to a misplacement of the hooves during movement with the hind feet colliding with the front limbs and feet. This is known as an over reach and can lead to injury, if your horse is shod this can also result in lost shoes.

To help prevent an over reach, a well fitted pair of over reach boots can be fitted to the front feet during turnout and protect the area most likely to experience impact from the hind feet. These should be fitted so the rear portion of the hoof isn’t visible and there is also a small amount of movement around the rim at the top of the boot. In some rare cases, the top of the boot may start to rub over a period of time. If this happens, a layer of vasoline around the top of the boot can prevent this.

There are also a few options for materials the boots are made from, consult with your farrier about the most suitable option for your horse and their environment.

Being eaten, kissed, licked, and nibbled by the 3-year-old Cleveland bays this week. I have trimmed these every 6 weeks since they were a month old so they are very good to do as you can see. You don't want to have horses of this size and age being not handled and not used to the farrier!!
