Dental disease is more than a sore mouth and not wanting to eat. It can impact their quality of life as well as be an additional factor in liver and heat disease. Fortunately, there are a range of things available to help keep your pets' teeth clean and healthy.

Tooth brushing: This is the ideal way of keeping teeth clean. Most cats and dogs can be trained to accept this; however, there are always a few who say no! A toothpaste designed for pets must be used.

Dental diets: These use the chewing action of kibble to physically remove the tater from the teeth.

Food additives such as PlaqueOff powder. This seaweed powder removes the biofilm over the plaque, which allows the body to break it down.

Treats – Some treats are designed to remove tarter such as PlaqueOff treats and Purina Dentalife.

Water additives - these are also designed to remove the plaque biofilm to allow the body to break it down.

You can use any of these or a combination!

It is important when looking for dental care products to check of the VOHC logo as this means it is te**es to reduce tarter by at least 20%

Signs of tooth disease can include difficulty eating (dropping food, not being able to chew food) reluctance to eat, pawing at mouth, smelly breath, change in grooming behaviors and generally being quieter or grumpy.

If you are concerned about your pet, please book them in with the nurse for a free dental check.
