Well that’s one to add to the shopping list for equines…
Horsey Hacks
With the prices of everything rising around us, who has a good ‘hack’ they can share with their fellow equestrians? Everyday items without the ‘equine’ price tag?
This is one I’ve started using recently; Red Bush Tea 👀
What is Red Bush Tea? Well, it’s a plant called Rooibos which grows in South Africa and has a whole host of health benefits. It is commonly found in equine supplements in South Africa, but I’ve not seen it in any in the UK to date.
It is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, which is great for horses with joint issues. It inhibits the enzyme responsible for vasoconstriction, promoting optimum blood flow around the body. As a rich source of aspalathin, studies have shown feeding Rooibos can help regulate blood sugar and reduce insulin resistance. It also promotes great skin and coat! If fed regulalary, studies have shown Rooibos can have anti carcinogenic properties. There’s a long list of possible positive effects Rooibos can have, including boosting the immune system, helping with digestive issues, strengthening bone and ligament…
So I went on the hunt for some Red Bush tea bags in Asda - 80 bags for £2.30 - I feed two bags per day (tear the bags open and sprinkle on feed) so approximately 6p per day!
What other household items have you found that can help with everyday horse care?
