Wow! I'm absolutely blown away by the support, love, and floods of tears Fern's story has instigated. (I now know "Greeting" means to cry uncontrollably!) who knew!?
Those 6, long painful years brought us untold sadness. Fern suffered at the hands of people who used her as a money making commodity. 6 years of being locked away from view. The pads on her feet so soft and unused they peeled and blistered when she was finally home and allowed to run. The joints on her legs were calloused and hairless from hours spent laying on hard floors.
Forced to produce litter after litter of pups to fill pockets with money.
She didn't know where we went, we didn't know where she was... But we never stopped looking. She wasn't loved by them, but she's adored by us.
It should never happen, but it does. An opportunistic theft, a snap decision to take what's not yours. Its profitable. Easy money. Doesn't matter the emotional cost.
The law states we must microchip, but there is no legal obligation on vets and organisations to scan every dog and cat that arrives in their surgery on initial consultation or yearly check up and then check that pet is with its riteful owner.
How many stolen pets are out there in new and unsuspecting homes? Have been found straying and kept? Or have been taken and used to make money like my Fern?
I'd argue, far too many.
That is why we are petitioning to have the law changed. It is compulsory to chip, but not compulsory to scan and check.
Fernslaw wants to help one pet, two pets, a thousand pets to find their way home. We believe that vets have an opportunity to make this happen but we need the law changed.
If Fern were yours, would you want her to have every opportunity to be discovered? Of course you would.
Please sign our petition if you want to see the law changed. We have 8 weeks to get our voices heard in Parliament and try to help some more families. We can only do that if people support us.

Again, a heartfelt thanks from us and Fern. We were the lucky ones... Let's help rewrite my story of recieveing that call over and over and over again for everyone still waiting.
