πΆ Danny Update πΆ
I thought it was about time I updated you guys on the Danny situation! Unfortunately old age is catching up with my boy π«
Some of you will know that Danny has previously suffered with Vestibular Disease. For those who don't know what this is, is basically like vertigo in dogs. They get so dizzy that their eyes flicker frantically from side to side, which also causes nausea, loss of appetite and leaves them unable to even stand. His initial attack lasted for about 10 days.
We'd been symptom free since 2018 until June when he had 2 very small episodes of this lasting less than a minute. Then nothing until this month when last week he had 4 small episodes in the space of a week. Out of concern for it being something more "serious" than vestibular, we took him along to the vets yesterday. The good news is that it's definitely vestibular. I say good news because although this is distressing for him and us, there are much much worse things that it could of been.
While we were there we got in to conversation about other things, and Danny has also been diagnosed with Canine Cognitive Dysfunction aka doggy dementia. This isn't 100% a surprise as we'd seen some possible signs, but we now have am official diagnosis.
Whilst this can't be treated, he's now started some medication that should hopefully help to slow the deterioration of his brain as much as possible. And we've spoken to the vet about management etc so lots of what I'm now calling "sniff walks", puzzle games and interactions to keep his brain active in the day time, then lots of peace, quiet and chill to keep him relaxed and calm in the evening.
Although none of this is ideal, we're happy to have some answers. Danny is still happy as larry and loving life so that's the most important thing. And we'll be doing everything we can to keep him that way for as long as we can β€
I'm explaining this to you guys as 1) I know you love him too, and 2) all of this going has affected dispatch times on some of your orders. But I'm now all caught up! And hopefully things will settle going forwards. Once again, thanks all for your patience, understanding and love β€
