Cardinal tetras have been extremely good quality from our current supplier, fantastic colour, size and health. Cardinal tetra are slightly larger than neon tetra and can easily be distinguished by the red extending along the whole body unlike neons

Our betta imports arrive from the far East in individual bags not much bigger than a tea bag. Previously to this they will have been raised in small jars or bottles, no additional heating, no additional natural light, no filtration and no air pumps. These fish are adapted to live in small bodies of water with poor oxygen levels and this is the traditional way they are kept and bred. We initially keep them in individual jars much larger than they have been accustomed too. After we are happy with their health and they are eating a wide range of foods to bring them back into good condition they are moved to much larger tanks. Generally they are housed with peaceful fish in order for them to become accustomed to living with other fish after having spent most of their life in solitary confinement. Our fully acclimatised betta are currently £12 each with the same type but much smaller betta available elsewhere at more than double the price.

Sterbae corydoras or whatever new name they have been given, too old to keep up.
These have had months to settle down, acclimatise and quarantine and yet our price is three pound lower than other stores selling unquarantined fish.
Busy in the tank feeding on newly hatched brine shrimp which has slowly bought them into good condition.

Balloon platties we are breeding here with plenty of algae in the tank. This is one of the most popular tanks with our customers. The original intent was purely an experiment to see if they bred true or if there was any jiggery pockery involved to create the balloon shape. No - they breed true and in copious numbers along with guppies after a female managed to get in the tank

This is the view in one small section of our sump. Teeming with livebearers and their fry all really happy and healthy fish that are breeding like crazy
UK bred fish are by far the healthiest as they are not stressed out by long haul flights, cramped conditions and continously changing environment due to passing through wholesalers and shippers tanks being exposed to no end of disease.
Like all fish here they are fed on the best livefoods, freeze dried foods and foods imported from small producers. All the foods we bring in have the best ingredients and produced with the best methods, including flakes that are produced in the US with low temperatures to preserve nutrients

This is sadly the reality, customers who have no understanding giving a one star review.
We also put fish welfare first and will not entertain doing stupid things due to customers lack of understanding. So many people read total garbage about fish keeping on social media posts and suddenly feel they are the world experts without a shred of real experience.

General update for our customers
International orders are again being very problematic and being returned to the UK despite all necessary paperwork. The UK still seems to be being punished for Brexit so we will not be sending goods out of the UK for a while.
Tim's west African killifish database is now offline due to the rising costs of hosting on website. An older version is still available on the American killifish site but Tim has been unable to get this updated due to changes of webmaster.
Any requests for live plants/live food and frozen foods need to be with us by tommorow evening so that we can get orders in.
Hope you all had a good weekend and we will be open as usual on Wednesday having got up to date with stocking, admin and general maintenance.
