🖨️ WHY REEFSTOP IS BRINGING 3D PRINTING IN-HOUSE 🪸
When we first started looking at 3D-printed products for ReefStop, one thing became obvious—they can get expensive very quickly.
That isn’t necessarily because anybody is being greedy.
By the time a product has passed between the designer, printer, supplier and retailer, several businesses understandably need to make something from it. Unfortunately, all those separate costs eventually land with the customer.
We initially approached established 3D-printing businesses for trade supply. The products were good, but once everybody had taken a fair share, there wasn’t enough room left for us to offer customers the value we wanted.
So instead of simply adding another margin, we decided to cut out the extra steps and bring production in-house.
We’ve invested in professional equipment and have been learning, testing, prototyping and refining everything ourselves. That gives us direct control over the quality, strength, fit and finish of every item—and allows us to make improvements without passing through several different companies first.
It also means we can offer custom sizes, heights, colours and designs based on what reefkeepers actually need, rather than being limited to whatever already exists.
Material choice matters too.
For anything intended to be used around livestock, we’ll use branded, traceable materials from reputable manufacturers with proper technical and safety documentation. No anonymous “mystery filament”, no unknown recycled blends and no choosing whatever happens to be cheapest that week.
Products intended for submerged use will be tested in our own systems before being offered to customers. Saving a few quid will never take priority over consistency, durability or livestock safety.
Anything sold by ReefStop will either be designed by us or produced with the proper commercial rights.
Pictured is one of our first in-house prototypes. It’s still being edited, printed and refined, but once perfected it will be used within our own coral display trays.
Fewer hands. Fewer unnecessary mark-ups. Better control. Fairer prices.
This is only the beginning.
