Wellcat Rescue

Wellcat Rescue Wellcat Rescue is a registered charity (518860). Wellcat is a small rescue and charity (518860) based in Frankley, Birmingham.

We take in unwanted or stray cats and kittens, ensure they receive necessary veterinary care and find them their purrfect forever homes. All of our cats are fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, snap tested for for FIV and FeLV, and up to date with flea and worming treatment. They also go to their new homes with a ‘Gotcha Day’ package to ensure as smooth transition to help them settle into the

ir new homes. We have a fantastic team of volunteers who work around the clock with the day to day care of the cats and kittens in our rescue and have amazing vet support from Oaks Veterinary Centre, Cotteridge. Wellcat relies solely on donations, fundraising, volunteers and a supportive community. It is only through their continued dedication that the charity can continue running and helping hundreds of cats and kittens each year. We now run our visiting times by appointment only, so please email us prior to visiting to book an appointment. [email protected]

💛Straw for Strays💛

With many rescues full and in crisis, please help strays during this cold weather by providing them a shelter. Use a plastic storage box with a hole at the front, a hooded litter tray or a plastic shelter and line it with straw to keep them nice and warm. Polystyrene boxes/sheets make perfect insulation.

❗️Never place blankets, towels, bedding or newspaper in their shelter as these materials get wet, absorb moisture and freeze.❗️

Remember straw for strays.

Thank you for helping them. 😺❣️

Deaf cat facts with Gracie 🐾

Gracie is one of our resident sponsor cats and as a deaf kitty herself, she’d like to share with you some deaf cat facts.

👀 Deaf cats use their eyes like superpowers.
As they can’t hear, they rely more on their other senses and are often extra observant and great at reading body language.
🌟Deaf cats feel vibrations.
They can feel your footsteps and the vibrations in the floor as you move. Never sneak up on a deaf cat as it can startle them.
👋 Hand signals are a great way to communicate.
Many deaf cats can learn visual cues just like hearing cats learn verbal ones.
💪 Deaf cats are just as capable.
They love to play, explore, and enjoy life just like any other cat, but it is safer to keep them indoors only.
💤 Deaf cats sleep deeply.
You might need gentle touch or floor vibrations to wake them without startling them.
👁️Not all white cats are deaf.
17-22% of white cats with non-blue eyes are born deaf.
40% of white cats with one blue eye are deaf.
65-85% of white cats with two blue eyes are deaf.

Do you know any other facts about deaf cats? Or perhaps you have a deaf cat at home? Feel free to share in the comments! 😺

Bryony update! 🐾

We havent heard from Bryony for a while so we thought we should give you a little update. It seems Bryony really took a shine to one of our wonderful volunteers. Bryony has been living with Rugile as a foster cat for a month now and they are definitely a purrrrrfect team. Rugile has kindly sent us some lovely pictures and videos, I think it's safe to say Ruglie and Bryony have really bonded which has left the rest of the team wondering if Bryony will actually home back? Watch this space! 👀

Meet Frank and Nancy! 😺😺

These babies came into us along with their 3 siblings and mom. They were bought into rescue as ferals and were due for TNR (trap, neuter, release). Luckily for these furbabies the trap neuter release turned into a trap neuter rehome because this little family have really stolen the hearts of every volunteer.

Frank and Nancy were the last 2 kitties from the family to come around. They aren’t quite there yet but they’ve made massive progress and doing soooooo well.

So for now they will stay with us and we will keep working with them, soft voices, gentle handling and lots of love until they are ready to find their forever home together. 💖

Keep an eye out for more updates on Frank and Nancy! 🐾
