Summer is wonderful… but for our dogs, keeping cool can sometimes be a challenge. Beyond the obvious shade and fresh water, here are 5 unusual but brilliant ways to help your furry friend beat the heat:

1. Freeze their favourite toys
Pop a chew toy or Kong filled with dog-safe treats into the freezer. It becomes a cooling activity that keeps them entertained and refreshed.

2. Create a “sniff garden” in the shade
Hide treats among herbs like mint or basil (safe varieties only!) in a shaded area. Mental stimulation tires dogs out without the risk of overheating from too much exercise.

3. Make icy paw prints
Freeze low-salt broth or watermelon pieces into ice cubes and scatter them on a tray outside. It’s enrichment, hydration, and fun all rolled into one!

4. Try a cooling bandana
Soak a bandana in cool water and tie it loosely around their neck. It’s a simple trick that can make walks much more comfortable on warmer days.

5. Become an early bird or night owl
Swap midday walks for sunrise strolls or evening adventures. Not only is it cooler, but there’s something magical about sharing those quieter moments together.

The biggest lesson summer teaches us? Dogs don’t need grand adventures to be happy. Sometimes all they want is a cool spot, a favourite toy, and their favourite human nearby.
