Not only dogs, but cats, rabbits etc. too - there’s loads of cute fur babies out there of all ages, please look in Rescue Centres before considering buying from the internet.

Please, dog walkers, take your pets out "very early" in the day or in the "late evening."

Temperatures on the ground can become hot enough to burn a dog's paws at the moment.

Not going for a walk won't do any harm but even "just down the road" could burn their paws which is extremely painful.

Straight out and straight back in for toilet purposes will suffice.

In any event, please carry water with you in case you get caught out. Zig zag if you have to, look for grass verges to walk on and cross over to the side of the street which is in shade.

Even if shade is provided in the garden, it's not guaranteed that your dog will use it so keep a close eye on what they're doing.

If you see a dog which has collapsed and/or is panting excessively, drape a wet towel over and splash with slightly cooled never cold water and seek Veterinary attention ASAP.

According to The Met Office, temperatures across the region are set to hit as high as 24c, while this spell of heat is expected to last right into the weekend.

The forecast says that temperatures tomorrow (Friday) are also likely to hit 21c as the UK experiences heatwave conditions.

Sporty Boss, leave me at home.

It's not nice for me to run next to you, but, because I am a loyal dog, I often go beyond my limits.
So, I run beside you, stand still if I must, and feel my paws burn.
I look at you for a moment, but you don't understand, because in 5 minutes, we will be at the cool puddle, right?
But those 5 little minutes can now just be fatal for me.
I sweat through my legs, and this heat just can't reach it. I cook from the inside, but I keep going.....

So I end up on the asphalt in the heat and in the sun.
With my tongue out of my mouth and my eyes blinking in the sun.
My legs are burned, my tongue is dry and my head pounding from the heat that my body can't get rid of….

Let your dog enjoy the sun, with a large bowl of water, a place in the shade. And best of all, preferably a cool patch of grass.

A partial solar eclipse tomorrow morning. Don’t look directly at the sun without the correct protection, it’s dangerous. Spread the word.
