Even if you have seen a seizure before, watching it happen to your beloved dog can be alarming and upsetting.

Many dogs will stop fitting by themselves, but if the seizure lasts for longer than 2 minutes, or if the dog has several seizures in a row, bring them in right away.

Did you know that one in four unspayed female dogs develop a mammary tumour? 🤔

This is because mammary tumours are often promoted by female hormones, making spaying, especially before the first heat cycles or right after the first heat cycle, one of the most important prevention measures.

Something else you should do is check your dog’s belly, chest and armpits for any lumps or anything unusual, especially if you have an older dog.

Remember: although it’s a lot more common in females, mammary tumours can also affect male dogs.

Get in touch with us if anything seems out of the ordinary.

Halloween can be great fun, but costumes and callers can become overwhelming for our pets. A little planning can help them take part in the celebration without stress or risk.

Here are our suggestions:

🎃 Plan a calm and fun night at home with their favourite toy.

🎃 Offer pet-safe treats or a stuffed toy, keeping chocolate or sweets containing xylitol for yourself.

🎃 Only dress pets that are relaxed and happy with clothing. Make sure their movements are not restricted. Keep eyes, ears and mouth clear and remove outfits at any sign of stress.

Are you including your pet in your Halloween celebrations? Tell us how in the comments below!

If your pet has eaten chocolate, time is critical. ⌛

Chocolate contains theobromine, which is toxic for pets. Signs of poisoning can appear within a few hours and include:

👉 Restlessness

👉 Vomiting

👉 Diarrhoea

👉 Excessive panting

👉 Tremors

If you spot these signs in your pet, call us straight away so we can assess the risk and advise you on the next steps.

Kittens like to hide inside parked cars for warmth. 😓 Even though this is most common during the colder months, they do this throughout the year during colder nights.

It’s always a good idea to beep the horn before driving, especially if it’s cold, and if you suspect there’s a cat in your car, stop driving immediately and call us or the Fire and Rescue Service for help. You can do more harm than good by trying to remove the kitten yourself.

Has this ever happened to you? Share in the comments!

If you spot signs of stress in your dog, the most important thing to do is to remove them from the situation or remove the stressor from the scene.

You can also praise your dog with cuddles or treats when they’re calm. 🐕
